Rep. Beyer Joins Host of Others in Moving On

Democrats wasted no time in announcing a new candidate for the job. He is John Lively, former mayor of Springfield.

Last week, Sen. David Nelson, R-Pendleton, announced he is not running again. Other members who are retiring include Rep. Jean Cowan, D-Newport, and Sen. Joanne Verger, D-Coos Bay.

Others who aren't coming back (at least not in 2013: Rep. Dave Hunt, D-Gladstone; Rep. Jefferson Smith, D-Portland; Rep. Mary Nolan, D-Portland, and Rep. Bill Garrard, R-Klamath Falls. Democratic co-speaker Arnie Roblan, D-Coos Bay is leaving his House seat to run for the state Senate.
