Eileen Brady dances across the bridge
Though none of Portland's three mayoral candidates believes the Columbia River Crossing will be built in its current bloated configuration -- if the $3.6 billion boondoggle is ever built -- Eileen Brady somehow managed to spin her way into an endorsement from the Portland Business Alliance.
That feat of political gamesmanship has been met with frustration and amusement by Charlie Hales and Jefferson Smith, Brady's opponents.
Asked to parse the difference in their views on the bridge, Hales said, "The difference isn't between my position and hers. The difference is between her position and hers. Have you read her Street Roots interview?"
Added Smith, "I've tried to say the same thing to the people who are promoting the project and the people who aren't."
