Study: Bike Lanes the Best Job Creators
For those who get frustrated when they see city workers painting another bike lane, here’s a little news you can use: Cycling projects may be the best ways to create local jobs.
That’s according to a new University of Massachusetts study showing that bicycle projects create 11.44 local jobs per $1 million spent. By comparison, pedestrian-only projects average 10 jobs for the same amount of money. Meanwhile, auto-centric “road-only” projects generated 7.8 jobs for every $1 million spent.
