Portland Mayor Sam Adams announces change of course on controversial West Burnside redesign

The city of Portland has scuttled plans to turn West Burnside and Northwest Couch Street into a pair of one-way streets with new streetcar service. Mayor Sam Adams now says his abandoned 2007 plan would have offered pedestrians, bicyclists and motorists the greatest benefit. "But it comes at too high a price tag," Adams said Wednesday.
