No surprises in Oregon
The tightest House primary was the Republican contest in Oregon’s first district. Businessman Rob Cornilles, a contender in the National Republican Congressional Committee’s Young Guns program, won a three-way race with only about 40 percent of the vote. Mortgage broker John Kuzmanich and retired Naval officer Doug Keller, both claiming the tea party mantle, divided the vote with about 30 percent each. Cornilles’s relatively weak performance demonstrated the power of a more conservative base in a low-turnout election.
