Ore. Senate mulls health insurance rate measures
Oregon’s State Senate has begun considering a series of bills that would require health insurers to justify premium increases in individual and small group insurance markets.
The measures, backed by Sen. Chip Shields, a Portland Democrat and health care affordability advocate, were introduced by the General Government, Consumer and Small Business Protection Committee, which Shields chairs.
The committee heard testimony Wednesday from several small business owners who back the measures and representatives from Providence Health Services and Regence who oppose them.
