Wheat fallout: Merkley wants answers in 10 days
Emphasizing the need for a quick response, U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.) on Friday called on Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack to give guidance to Oregon wheat growers on how to ensure their product is marketable and meets the needs of their customers.
Merkley sent a letter to Vilsack following the discovery in eastern Oregon of genetically modified wheat engineered by Monsanto Co.
Merkley said growers need guidance within 10 days, before the Oregon wheat harvest starts.
