The League of Conservation Voters released the 2012 National Environmental Scorecard Wednesday, scoring the voting records of Washington politicians during the second session of the 112th Congress. Oregon Sen. Jeff Merkley, a Democrat, received a 100 percent rating in 2012 and is only senator to receive a 100 percent lifetime score from the environmental group. Sen. Merkley also received praise today from the American Water Works Association: http://www.watertechonline.com/...
The American Water Works Association (AWWA) applauded the introduction of S. 335, the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act of 2013 (WIFIA) by U.S. Sen. Jeff Merkley (D-Ore.), calling it an important step forward in rebuilding U.S. water and wastewater infrastructure, according to a press release. “One year ago this week, AWWA published its ‘Buried No Longer’ study that demonstrates that more than $1 trillion will be needed over the next 25 years to replace and expand aging drinking water infrastructure. Wastewater needs are similar,” said AWWA Executive Director David LaFrance. “WIFIA would provide low-interest loans to help local communities build more infrastructure with less money. It represents just the right balance between local responsibility and federal assistance. The time is right for real, workable solutions to the nation’s unprecedented water infrastructure challenge.” - WaterTech e-News Daily, 2/21/13
From filibuster reform to saving people's underwater mortgages to Wall Street reform to gay rights to environmental issues, Merkley is a proven progressive hero. And because he's a progressive hero, the Koch Brothers are going to make him a target in 2014. But Merkley wants to hear from you about what issues matter to you this year and next year:
Karl Rove, the Koch Brothers, and their billionaire SuperPAC buddies must be disappointed, because 2012 was a big year for progressives across America: We re-elected President Barack Obama, elected many strong progressive Senators, and won progressive victories from coast to coast. Of course, they’ll be back. We already know that they are targeting Senator Merkley – one of the strongest and most effective progressives in Congress. To prepare for the fight ahead, we’re organizing a powerful grassroots movement for progressive change – building on the historic grassroots campaign we built in Oregon in 2008. To make that happen, it’ll help to know a little about you – how you like to get involved and what issues matter to you. Please fill out this very short one-minute survey right now and help us get ready to take on the SuperPACs in 2014: https://jeffmerkley.wufoo.com/... Jeff has said it a thousand times before: The stakes are high for America. If we want to rebuild our economy by creating middle-class jobs, tackle global climate change and rein in polluters, hold Wall Street accountable, and reform our broken campaign finance system, we need to take on Rove and his allies in 2014 – and win. Thanks, Tim Leahy, Jeff Merkley for Senate p.s. Will this survey really help? Yes. Your answer will help us build a movement that's focused, smart, and efficient. Please take a moment and help us get to know you a little better: https://jeffmerkley.wufoo.com/...
