Kitzhaber resigns
It has come to this. Minutes ago, Governor John Kitzhaber announced his resignation, effective February 18 at 10 a.m.
It is a stunning fall for a man that, for many Oregonians, seemed to embody Oregon itself. He has been one of our most gifted leaders, and yet in the end it seemed no one was willing to follow him.
Secretary of State Kate Brown assumes the governorship.
Here's hoping that we can move forward quickly. The legislative session is short, and there is much to do.
