At Greg Walden's NRCC, they're raising millions - so where'd it all go?

As y'all know by now, our very own Congressman Greg Walden (R-Hood River) is the chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee, responsible for recruiting the candidates and raising the money to keep the GOP in charge in the House.

On March 20, the NRCC touted a roaring success at their annual fundraising dinner. A dinner that was so successful that, in just one night, they raised $14.4 million. That's a lot of rubber chicken, eh?

Only here's the thing: Just a few weeks later, when their fundraising report came due, it was revealed that they raised just $8.1 million - over the entire month of March.

So, what gives?

At Daily Kos, David Nir speculates:

So what's going on here? Is the NRCC counting mere pledges that never came through—$6,300,000 worth? Perhaps they're just snowing the media... or maybe their new finance guys came over from Mitt Romney's data shop and are steeped in Karl Rove's "the math." I guess I'd believe anything.

Of course, this is the same Greg Walden who chaired the NRCC's audit committee when over a million bucks was embezzled away - all because he failed to pick up a phone and call the auditors that the embezzler used to cover his tracks.

It seems that Greg's not very good with that whole financial management thing. Stay tuned.
