Who will the Republicans run in 2014?
Kari Chisholm
Filing day for the 2014 campaigns for Governor and U.S. Senator is almost exactly a year away. In 2007, at this time of year, there was a lot of chatter about which Democrat might take on Gordon Smith. In 2009, both Democrats and Republicans were buzzing about the coming race for Governor.
But right now, there's precious little talk about either race on the Republican side. This weekend, at the annual Dorchester Conference, the Republicans even joked about the lack of interest. From Jeff Mapes at the O:
The lack of activity was so pronounced that the conference's Saturday night satirical show ran a video that began with an announcer intoning, "Now we go live to the 2014 Republican governor's debate." The camera then panned over a debate stage with two empty chairs, the monotony broken only by a broom-wielding janitor.
As the Daily Kos Elections team put it, "Oregon Republicans don't even have a barrel-bottom to scrape."
So what do you think? Are you seeing any signs of life from the Oregon GOP? Any candidates that might be worth paying attention to?
