Watch the Sellwood Bridge move (video)
Kari Chisholm
OK, this is pretty amazing video from ODOT. On Saturday, Multnomah County moved the Sellwood Bridge - making room for the construction of the new Sellwood Bridge.
The whole bridge is 1100 feet long - the length of 3.5 football fields - and weighs 6.8 million pounds. Crazier still, the bridge had to be moved 66 feet at its west end and 33 feet on its east end, meaning that it basically had to swivel while shifting.
Frankly, I was a little worried about the whole thing falling into the water, but it seems that it all happened without any glitches.
The Sellwood re-opens on Thursday. Learn more at SellwoodBridge.org.
