On Monday, Merkley to lead floor fight on DISCLOSE Act
Kari Chisholm
On Monday, the U.S. Senate will take up the DISCLOSE Act - a measure designed to shed light on the anonymous contributions flooding our political system.
Earlier today, Senator Jeff Merkley joined with a group of Senators to ask the public to join them in a public outcry for reform. You can sign their petition here.
[T]he law would require any entity spending $10,000 or more during an election cycle to file a report with the Federal Election Commission within 24 hours, detailing the amount and nature of each expenditure over $1,000 and the names of all of its donors who gave $10,000 or more. Transfer provisions in the bill prevent donors from using shell organizations to hide their activities.
For his petition drive, Merkley was joined by Senators Barbara Boxer, Al Franken, Sherrod Brown, Patty Murray and a dozen others.
