Wisconsin Fights Back
Deborah Barnes
My hope, as a union activist and member of the Oregon Education Association Board of Directors, is that this move, this vote, this activism, is the beginning of a new story across the nation.
It is finally a time for celebration for the working class. Despite the fact that the republicans in Wisconsin tried everything in their power to usurp the special election Tuesday, union supporters took a stand and said, "Enough is Enough!" Wisconsin voters will be voting on August 9th to unseat those republican Senators who chose to ignore the rights of union members in their state. The message from the voters was clear: It is time to take our state back on behalf of all workers.
My hope, as a union activist and member of the Oregon Education Association Board of Directors, is that this move, this vote, this activism is the beginning of a new story across the nation. People are tired of corporations having more rights, more political power, and more support than those of us who believe in the rights of the middle class. I hope more disgraceful politicians understand that the middle class is the backbone of this country. I am optimistic that those who believe in equality will continue to hold those lawmakers responsible if they refuse to respect working folks.
Congratulations to the voters in Wisconsin. You have shown the nation and our lawmakers that the middle class is strong and will fight when you try to trample on our rights. I look forward to your celebration the night of August 9th.

From Madison, Wisconsin; thanks for the support, Deborah. I'm originally from the Pacific Northwest (Seattle) and can tell you I am so proud of fellow Wisconsinites today. Living through the trauma of this outrageous radical agenda from our Republican politicians has been rough. But the momentum that it has created, the sleeping giant that has awakened, is so hopeful. The trick is, EVERYONE has to get involved. No matter how small you may think your time or contribution is - it's CRITICAL to success. Motivate others and get involved locally Oregonians. You can do it too! Thanks for your support!!

Good news from Wisconsin! I have contributed to campaigns there and hope other Oregonians will recognize the importance of this battle and direct some $ that way.

It isn't just the rights of union workers they are after. It is all middle class workers, and the people of Wisconsin at large, who have been assaulted, and insulted by this power grab. Literal in the sense that the Govs budget allows him to grab state-owned powerplants and sell them to cronies without review.
