Get your UGB on: Metro ready to hear from you
Carla Axtman
It's unlikely that most readers of Blue Oregon have near the land-use fetish that I have. It's just one of those weird little quirks that seem unique to a small subset of society who enjoy spending their free hours poring over documents and attending long meetings. This is my lot in life.
But if you live in the region that's governed by Metro--you've got a stake in how and where land is brought in to the Urban Growth Boundary. This will potentially impact the roads you drive, the mass transit you use, your schools, grocery stores and your neighborhoods. This is YOUR region--make these folks work for you. And this time instead of listening to them talk--it's their turn to listen to you. So bring your stake out this week and tell your elected Metro leaders what matters to you.
These meetings start at 5PM but they're scheduled to go until 9PM. Show up late if need be and leave early if you're done. But SHOW UP.
5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 29 Clackamas County Public Services Building, Kaen Rd., Oregon City
5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 2 Hillsboro Civic Center Auditorium 150 E. Main St., Hillsboro
5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 9 Metro Regional Center, council chambers 600 NE Grand Ave., Portland
There's also this one, a week from this Friday:
2 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 16 Metro Regional Center, council chambers 600 NE Grand Ave., Portland

Fear not, Carla, it's a fetish I share - along with...um...uh...yeah.
I write about this stuff a LOT at Calitics, and will write more about it in my upcoming book. I've some familiarity with the Portland model - see a book review I wrote in 2006 on the topic: http://www.h-net.org/reviews/showrev.php?id=12551
