HD-37: Julie Parrish: Vote for me because you're too stupid to know what I really think
Carla Axtman
Republicans in Oregon seem to have an entrenched case of doublespeak. First there was Dudley with the minimum-wage-is-bad-but-I'm-too-cowardly-to-actually-make-it-a-public-campaign-issue revelation. Then the was the Scott "Cap & Trade is all that and a bag of chips until John Boehner writes me a check" Bruun situation.
Next up on the GOP greatest hits? Oregon GOP House candidate Julie Parrish does a quick 180 degree turn on a sales tax for Oregon.
Back in February of this year, a letter to the editor by Parrish grousing about the definition of "rich" was published in The Oregonian. The online version of the LTE yielded 350+ comments, a number of them by Parrish herself. One of those comments by Parrish advocates for an Oregon sales tax:
[snip] Please show me a family of 5 making in the 50K-125K range, the supposed "middle class" in this country, who pays the same percentage of taxes as the family of 5 making over $250k - it's an arbitrary number, and politically motivated - it creates a sense of disparity between those brackets that doesn't exist, but it's a great sound bite.
The unscientific but fairly close estimate is that the tax burden for each citizen in the state at the current budget rate is $7k per person. None of us are paying any way near that amount - the budget is being shouldered by businesses and people who are making 7-8 figures a year.
Instead of being arbitrary, wouldn't it make more sense to find ways in our state to:
A. cut the budget B. assess a sales tax C. redo the special-interest levies?
[snip]
Now it's September, and oh by the way, Julie's running for the Oregon House so...not so much on the whole sales tax thing. In her ad she says, "...and I'll oppose a sales tax."
Shorter Parrish: Vote for me because I think you're too stupid to know what I really think.

Maybe you should hire on with one of the more prominent progressive pacs. You could steer them away from recent excesses and toward legitimate, evidence based attacks.
Contrasting and comparing actual candidate quotes, What a concept.

careful Carla there are alot of things about Pete DeFazio that tea partiers like me like too. Rather than bore you with why his immigration grade w/ numbers USA demonstrates that he has Oregon's back I was hoping to wake up this morning to find an article here about Kitz's soft dollars bribe or something like outrage over the liberals beating up a man sitting 20' from Kitz in a church of all places and denouncing this type of senseless partisan (and illegal) violence. Did you know if that man had taken the camera away from the victim and then hit him with it instead of his fist (20' from John in a church!) it would have been a measure 11 crime? and lastly I was hoping to see something fair and balanced (like embarrassment and shock) over the Oregonian calling the democrats liars(and not even dressing it up with flowery synonyms for lying just.. LIARS!) for bulk mailing 10's of 1000's of mailers stating flat out bold faced black and white lies about the republican candidate ...whoever that might be... where are those stories? I think it's only fair and balanced to expect BO to separate itself from the rabble since you expect the tea party to denounce things they have no control over ? Is this silence your tacit endorsement of this kind of illegal and impolite conduct?

This non-germane to the post. It's clear what you want to discuss, but not clear you make the best decisions about what forum to choose. Or or capable of doing so.

PS Is your silence on this post regarding the floating plastic island in the sea your tacit admission that you WANT it to stay there because you dont' care about the environment? I THOUGHT SO.

CV, you want fair & balanced and yet accuse Kitz of bribing people (didn't happen) or liberals beating up a man (didn't happen; i was there & the video is very misleading). your call for fair & balanced is pure crap; you want to dump crap on people and get away with it.
rank hypocrisy.

please explain the circumstances that make it okay to assault anyone in a church TA. If the guy was being an ass then show him the door. If he starts swinging on someone then subdue him ... Two black men very obviously assaulted a man in a church while he was attending a public event he was invited to attend. There was nothing posted in the ad for the event saying no video there was nothing posted at the event that said no video ... in fact until they decided the man was dressed to well to be a democrat videotaping of the event was fine ... then all of a sudden it was not. Did the Kitzhaber campaign request that no one video tape the event? Did Governor Kitz even pause for a second while this man was being assaulted 40 feet away from him? Nope.
I appreciate that every week the left treats us to a new incident where they are engaging in exactly the same violent assaultive behavior they have been accusing the Tea Party of doing for the last year but can't seem to document even one incident of them actually doing it. I suppose it was Rodney Kings fault when he got his head caved in and I suppose it's the rape victims fault for acting slutty or dressing provocatively. Come on TA if you can't at least get on board denouncing actions like this ...in a church ... then nothing else you have to say on this or any topic will ever have any meaning to me at all ...It will just be chalked up as more liberal "do as I say not as I do" hypocrisy

Chester - what do your comments have to do with Carla's post? If you have something to say and you can't stay on topic, why don't you write your own post instead of trying to hijack someone else's. Kitz was a guest at the event you mentioned. I suppose if someone was in a car accident, got sick or they were mugged within 50 miles and/or 24 hours of the event, it would be his fault. Jeez! Try to say something constructive, next time, would you.

if someone got in a wreck while Kitz was standing 40' away from the accident and he stood there and did nothing to render aid in anyway ...then yes I would have a problem with his decision ...wouldn't you? Wrong is wrong no matter whether you are a guest or not. The man who was assaulted was a guest as well ...what is wrong with your thinking on this thing? Do you really think this man being assaulted at a public event he was invited too is OK?

Carla, you're pointing out a frequent pattern of the right wing. They talk out of two sides of their mouth. They talk their extremist trash talk to one group, and then turn around and deny it when they get into a general election. Jim Huffman and Scott Bruun are great examples of their agenda for social security privatization and riding shotgun for Wall St. and their corporate contributors.

Niche marketing would be so much easier if the other side didn't vote.

Bill if you think it's the right who rides shotgun for wall street then you have lost your grasp on reality and no amount of dispositive proof will ever change your mind. Wall Street gave all of their campaign contributions to DEMOCRATS!! wake up!
