Steve Novick not running for MultCo Chair; throws support to Jeff Cogen
Carla Axtman
Just got off the phone with Steve Novick, who had been talking up today a possible run for the Multnomah County Chair seat vacated today by Ted Wheeler. Novick says he'll be throwing his support behind Jeff Cogen.
Novick said he had a good conversation with Bev Stein today, who advised him to support Cogen. Novick said he thought that was the right advice, so he took it.

this is too bad. as of now, there are 172 fans on the FB i put up for Steve. i think he underestimates the support he would get. over the course of the campaign, he would make Cogen earn the job (or Carter, for that matter). there was a lot of joy among people at the news - i'm sad Bev advised him to take the safe route. this was a race worth running -- easy for me to say as the guy not running!
there are a lot of us who still consider us Howard Dean's people, and many who feel the same about Steve. it's his call, but we are ready to do.

...ready to GO. sheesh.

Many of us are disppointed to hear Steve is dropping out of the race. Certainly Jeff will do a fine job as County Chair. But no one can come close to Novick's innovation, conviction, dedication--all mixed with sheer energy and smart humor. Steve, we'll all be with you when the right race comes along to fit your many talents.

TA - It's not that I underestimate or underappreciate people's support. It's a matter of people most familiar with the county saying they think Jeff has earned the job. Best, Steve

The fact that Steve Novick puts the welfare of the county above his own personal ambition only increases my desire to see the man in government.
I just don't know where.

Now that we don't have to do an endorsement interview, I've got to say I was kinda convinced by your line about federal and state level links, Steve. So let's hope I was wrong to be convinced.

This is great. Why tear apart the progressive community? Steve is suited for bigger and better things. Earl isn't going to be able to be a Congressman for ever, and Steve is a perfect person to step into that role when the time comes.

I thought it was Republicans that annointed the "next in line". What's wrong with having choices?

I strongly disagree that earl isn't going to be a congressman forever. With all the biking he is in much better shape than I am. He will be in Congress long after I'm cremated.

Echo what Maurer said.

We could always create a new statewide elected position of Lieutenant Governor so Steve could beat Lim.

Well said Steve, but if he does move on and you are still alive, I would support you to be the next Congressman from Oregon's 3rd.
