OR-4: DeFazio runs for re-election; not for Governor
Kari Chisholm
For months, Congressman Peter DeFazio has noodled around with the idea of running for Governor. Every few months, he'd declare publicly that he'd decide by some date in the future - and that date would come and go, and a new date would be set.
Well, now, he's made it official: He's running for re-election to the House. Mapes:
Rep. Peter DeFazio, D-Ore., made it official Friday by filing for reelection to his Fourth District House seat. Until now, DeFazio has refused to rule out the possibility he might run for governor, although it's been months since anyone in Oregon political circles has actually thought he would not seek reelection.

Good. I like having him as my representative in DC. He's allot truer to the values of helping working men and women than almost anyone else in the House.

DeFazio likes being a vociferous prima donna much more than he likes, or has the talen,t for actual governance. Not a surprising decision.

Bill, would you please give examples of how he could lead more from Mahonia Hall, compared to what he's been able to accomplish? All I know are glad he made this decision, for precisely the reasons you cite.

Every now and then you need a 'vociferous prima donna' standing up for what's right for the working people of America in order to penetrate the thick craniums of your average rep in house in order to get their attention.

The nation's future is looking brighter with his voice in Congress.
The "Mr. Truth to Power" in Washington, Oregon should be proud. We need him more than ever, and he is truly sacrificing to stay. Congress is a nasty place these days.

As much as I love saying the words "Governor DeFazio" we need him in Washington. He is the best representative in the entire State; "As Independent as Oregon"
