Jerry Wilson: Why I'm Running for Governor
By Jerry Wilson of Portland, Oregon. Jerry is a candidate for Governor, and has announced he will seek the nomination of the Oregon Progressive Party. He was the founder of exercise equipment company Soloflex. Learn more at viva-la-revolucion.org
We don't need another politician as captain of our ship of state.
Politics as usual will give us outcomes as usual, drifting like a raft and getting nowhere. We need, as Jefferson advised, a revolution. I've outlined on my blog exactly what I will do by Executive Orders if elected. Executive Orders are not subject to debate or approval by the other two branches. They become law when issued. Voters will know exactly what they're getting; an advertisement in print is a contract. Everything I intend to do coulda-woulda-shoulda been done long ago were it not for the stranglehold of lobbyists. For those who think the Executive Power is a dangerous thing, a dictatorial power, I agree completely.
It can also be a life-saver provided voters know up front exactly how it will be used. Every ship needs a captain. I've been a ship captain (Airline Transport Pilot) since I was 25. I have 41 years of successful experience, with airships and as a captain of industry.
It is clear the press owners fear what I'm saying so have ignored my campaign. Their silence is deafening. The real press today is the internet, where blogs like yours allow free speech without owning the media, where even revolutionary ideas can be expressed democratically as our founders intended.
Thank you again for inviting me to share my flight plan for Oregon. Here's hoping all your readers will keep an open mind as they read my blog and if they like what they see, will share it with family and friends.
Respectfully,
Jerry Wilson, candidate for governor

The blog post advocating for the castration of all criminals in lieu of prison time is a deal breaker for me. Also the "I suggest convicts be forced to wear a sandwich board with their crime written on it, and wear a dunce cap while being paraded around town for a few weeks in chains" line is another deal breaker. Not sure how you plan on winning the progressive party nomination when you advocate the essentially torturing criminals (regardless of the severity of their crime) and the elimination of all business taxes.

My favorite part is when Wilson promises to use what he later calls a "dangerous" and "dictatorial" power.
My second-favorite part is a complete lack of understanding regarding how Executive Orders work.
I think the Legislature would have something to say about the idea that Executive Orders are not reviewable. (They are, however, able to be muted by legislation!)

Well, at least Wilson gives us a much needed comic relief while we contemplate this very important election. Evidently those solo-flex millions allowed him to buy a lot of primo stuff.

"9. Eliminate all taxes and fees on businesses. (Businesses don’t pay taxes, they collect them)." - exactly what I will do by Executive Orders if elected.
The Progressive Socialists that run Oregon - and this website - would never go along with that. You better take that one off the list or you'll never get elected.

Hey Jerry. Add to your executive order list to tax all capital gains at the same rate I pay on my damned income.
Also let's eliminate those deductions for houses, farm equipment, vehicles weighing over 8000#, and rugrats.
Get back to us about that, and I'm prepared to have a robust (albeit high pitched) discussion about the merits of castration. Maybe you could go first as a sort of demonstration project.

This guy is the same crap we in Oregon have been dealing with. No accountability. The fascist leaning socialists commonly referred to Progressives only know one thing and that is controlling the masses to their liking for capital gain and control. Jerry Wilson's use of executive orders is part and parcel of how the left forces their agenda on the masses.
The general public needs to wake up to what is happening to them and snuf-out the creeps that call themselves "for the people".
The US and state constitutions were put in place to control and keep out this kind of criminal activity.

Wow, someone needs to start sharing their drugs.

That's a good start. While I would drag my feet a little on the criminal justice proposals I could live with them if statutory criminals simply wore one that said, "Enemy of the State". Surely you don't subscribe to the good guys v bad guys circle jerk and think if you violate a law you're morally despicable, just because a lawyer got it onto the books! I do understand that those planks are to entice the teabaggers. Nice political move. Slimy, but very hacky.
My biggiest issue with you is Soloflex. It was an out and out scam. It's a piece of shit that made you a fortune off of marketing spin. Are we to believe that you will kill the epidemic of spin we suffer from?
Gubernatorial trivia question: What do Jerry Wilson and Wal-Mart have in common? Answer: Both have been ridiculed on King of the Hill for making their money on the backs of stupid Americans!

Wow, someone needs to start sharing their drugs.
Carla has been too responsive lately. I think we must accept that her mantle has been handed over, and that a new Madame La Snarque reigns at Blueoregon! Knocking at the door for some time, Carla's recent overly rational theses have allowed our new Madame to deliver the coup de grace ! Having complained that minority parties don't get coverage, that's the best we get. Just kidding. I know you don't open your eyes until you see the "D" after the name.
Feb 23, '10
I was hoping we'd just ignore him like the CIA controlled media.

I understand that you and yours are hell bent on destroying our world and everything in it sooner rather than later. But do you honestly expect the rest of us to sit idly by and let you do it without a fight?
Actually, they expect to be k arlockformetro.blogspot.com welcomed as saviors (k arlockformetro.blogspot.com)! (And no, the spam filter isn't broken, or I wouldn't have had to add the space).
Once you get into that initial delusion that the environment is just fine, the rest isn't hard.
Feb 23, '10
Why WTF, you charmer you! Madame La Snarque, indeed. Two things, darlin.....I only debate facts with those I feel are serious and Mr. Wilson does not qualify in my book (which is not to say he doesn't in yours...to each his own and all that); therefore, all he'll get from me is snark.
Second, I'm honored that you hold me in the same esteem as Carla as I've long admired her intellect and wit. However, I can hardly hold a candle to her in any respect here on BO, so I'm afraid the mantle you wish to bestow upon me is just not possible. Good try, though.
And one final thing----not only do I open my eyes for those without D after their names, I've VOTED for Non-Affliateds, Libertarians, and (gasp) Republicans. But I don't vote for candidates whose proposals a)sound like jokes; b)sound like they were written while high or c)would violate the civil and judicial rights of people as well as the Oregon Constitution. Oops, there goes that Snarqe again!
Feb 24, '10
SEEMS AS QUALIFIED AS DUDLY........ AND I AM NOT VOTING FOR HIM EITHER

The problem here is "Ross Perot" syndrome: the ability to thrive in a dictatorial environment (business, being a "captain") is antithetical to the political process, which demands an ability to create and facilitate consensus.
To say that "We don't need another politician as captain of our ship of state," reveals a dangerous and fundamentally demagogic understanding of how the political process WORKS. In business, what I say goes. (Which is why businessmen tend to hate unions so much: they challenge Ultimate Authority.) This is the EXACT opposite of politics. (Why do businessmen think that government is a business and ought to be run as such?)
So, to paraphrase: we don't need another scientist in charge of science. We don't need another fireman in charge of firefighting. We don't need another doctor in charge of medicine. We don't need another coach in charge of the football team. We don't need another farmer in charge of growing crops. We don't need another businessman in charge of business.
Alas, it is the clueless credo of the dumbass. Sorry, but there' not another word for it.
Feb 26, '10
Leaders do not seek consensus, they simply do what needs to be done. I've outlined what needs to be done and how to insure it gets done. Sorry if runs over anyone's dogma but dumbass is doing the same thing and expecting a different result.

Leaders do not seek consensus
I'm in......Sounds kinda like another hero...Dick Cheney.
I have experience castrating livestock. Couldn't be that different. Save me a slot in the new administration.
Feb 26, '10
No, Jerry, Leaders DO seek consensus and don't simply rule by Executive Order.
I think you're confusing dictators with leaders. Not the same thing.

Then shut the fuck up!
I'm shocked at the outrage over "leaders don't build consensus". I'll give you the parallel maxim. "Salesmen don't build relationships by filling a need, they close the deal". Is there a better marketing example than Soloflex? If you would ever open you eyes to the everyday around you, he wouldn't be running!
Given the horrid malady our Republic suffers from, I find this ambitious peddler to be the least odious. Hey, all you outraged types...tell me...how many people did we kidnap and illegally transport to places of torture this week? Is that what you thought you'd get with Obama? Deal with the fraudulent salesmen you owe first, then you can think about a high and mighty tone.
Feb 26, '10
Having worked in sales and volunteered in politics, I know the importance of relationships.
When was the last time Wilson actually made a sale himself?
He sounds like a dictator, not a politician.

If you would ever open you eyes to the everyday around you, he wouldn't be running!
I seriously doubt that the positioning of my eyelids has ever had or will ever have any effect on the decision making processes of fringe megalomaniacs with money to burn, and hubris to assuage.
Feb 26, '10
WTF, it is incumbent upon you to use civil language when commenting here, should you have forgotten your manners!
Feb 26, '10
WTF,
No, I will not "shut the fuck up". Why are you so upset about the fact that I find Mr. Wilson's "campaign" to be unwothy of serious discussion? This is a BLOG on the INTERNET. Sometimes people will debate a post and sometimes they'll snark it. Sometimes I do both in the same post. If you can't handle that, find somewhere else to play. You have a scroll button--use it if you find my comments so annoying. Or, you could try to grow a pair.
