WWeek: More on Minnis

Nigel Jaquiss at Willy Week has an update on the Minnis Mess, complete with a statement from John Minnis' attorney Michael Staropoli:

Mr. Minnis cooperated fully with the Department of Justice investigation. He was both forthright and candid with investigators. Mr. Minnis voluntarily resigned his position at the Department of Public Safety Standards and Training and similarly agreed to relinquish his [law enforcement] certification. He undertook these actions in hopes that the agency can effectively move forward and continue its strong contributions to the well being of Oregon’s public safety employees and the security of its citizens.

Nigel goes on to report that a memo from Kroger's office says that on the day Minnis packing was up his stuff and leaving, they were trying to interview him. From the memo, it looks like Minnis lied to the AG's investigator about his whereabouts, telling them he was on the highway when in fact he was still in the back parking lot at the Dept. of Public Safety offices.

    Gosh, this whole "walk away or pay your way out from under sexual offense allegations before you get in REAL trouble" thing seems soooo familiar!

    Oh yeah, that's right, election season 2006, Karen Minnis v Brading. Carla had the details back at Loaded Orygun 1.0, which I've recapped and added to with the new story, over at LO 2.0. He wasn't the perv that time, just the perv's protector. But as soon as the heat came down, John folded like an origami swan.
