OR-GOV: Jason Atkinson suspends non-campaign
Kari Chisholm
State Senator Jason Atkinson has never made a formal announcement of a campaign for Governor, despite the broad expectations of a campaign, the hiring of fundraising staff, and an accidental announcement to a local reporter.
Nonetheless, he's now "suspending" his campaign. According to a statement, it's related to a family health issue:
Stephanie and I have recently been confronted with some serious health concerns that need to be addressed before I undertake such a massive task as running for Governor of our great state. We ask for your thoughts and prayers as well as your patience as we wade through this difficult time. I am not going away, but need time with my family. We greatly appreciate your strong support and kind words.
Best wishes to the Atkinson family.

Politics completely aside here. Period.
I'm very sorry to hear that the Senator and his family are going through this difficult time. I'm unaware of the details and it really doesn't matter. It sucks when people that you love are sick and/or hurting, especially to the point where you have to give up something that's very important to you.
Senator Atkinson: I don't know how much reading you do of Blue Oregon, but here it is anyway...if there's anything I can do to help, please let me know. I'd be more than happy to drive down on the weekend and run errands or bring food.
I'm willing to bet I could fill a car up with folks around here willing to pitch in, if need be.
Just let me know.

Carla I know that you mean it when you volunteer. If you do come down to help the Atkinsons, let me know and you can stay at our place. I'll even cook!
