HD-35: Margaret Doherty gets the nod
Kari Chisholm
This afternoon, the Washington County and Multnomah County Commissioners unanimously selected Margaret Doherty to replace Rep. Larry Galizio, who resigned to take a job with the Oregon University System.
Doherty is a former Milwaukie H.S. teacher - and spent two decades advising the Oregon Education Association on labor and education issues. She's also on the Tigard Planning Commission and operates a small business, Flowers by Arrangement.
Previously, she had told the Tigard Times:
“You need people that want to be able to go to Salem with issues we’re facing now in education, family services and public safety,” she said. “I’ve got a good background in education. I’m one of the few people that’s never been in Salem that understands school funding.”
The other two nominees - selected by Democratic precinct committee people - were Dylan Hydes and Steve Dunne.
Update: Here's today's story from the Tigard Times.
