Harper's on Judge Garzon, John Bolton, Fans of Garzon
Steve Novick
After my friend Stephanie and I started Fans of Judge Baltasar Garzon - the famed Spanish judge investigating Bush administration officials for violations of international law at Guantanamo - I remembered that my friend Scott Horton writes on civil liberties for Harper's. He links to Fans of Baltasar Garzon in this post on Garzon and John Bolton. We've gained a number of new members, around the nation and the world, in response to his post. I encourage civil libertarians to read Scott on a regular basis ...

OK, it's not a minor POV diff. Just flat out, why is the only narrative for the Bush administration that the Democrats can come up with is that they're fuck ups? The cited article is a great example. They're "misfires". Is that what Cheney does with the facts, too?
There is NO HOPE to redressing the crimes of the Bush administration until you admit that they are corporate facists that are doing this crap ON PURPOSE. Boloton knows the facts. He wants to change them. He's presenting a formal argument like he would for a client. When the lawyer for the drunk driver that hits me argues that his client is a pillar of the community, despite the fact that he knows him to be a jerk, is he misfiring? Blinded by friendship?
It's bold faced lies delivered for consideration. That's the definition of fraud, and it's how the right does business. It's not an error, they're not misfiring, but, have you noticed, they're achieving their ends? How long before the socialist tendencies of teh Democrat Party combine with the fascist right to create the kind of National Socialism that Mr. Hitler was famous for?
We're not racist though. We kill everybody. We're far beyond that. Right and left can't combine? Seem to have with the current, popular, "Hate the crime, love the killer" sentiment. Oh, translation for the boob tube nursed, "Hate the war, love the soldier". Look at Viet Nam. Look at now. All those left wing protesters have been moved out of the anti-war camp. So successfully, anti-war as been redefined as sending your child off to fight, but being really, really, really against it.
That is like fcking for virginity. Even if you could do it, and put it in without taking it out (favorite American war fantasy), you would still be getting fcked!

Hey Steve, it looks like your beloved progressive democrat leader of Congress, Nancy Pelosi, was briefed all long about the "torture".
I wonder if she should face charges?

I wonder if she should face charges?
You bet! Legal malpractice, fraudulent promotion and a jaded hack that would subject the Party faithful to that after Delay. Those are just the things she obviously guilty of doing and being.

Joe R. [I]t looks like your beloved progressive democrat leader of Congress, Nancy Pelosi, was briefed all long about the "torture".
Congresswoman Pelosi stated very clearly that she was never told that any torture techniques were actually being used. She was told, in a 2002 top secret national security briefing, that Bush was considering using the techniques in the future. She was never told that techniques were actually put in practice. She certainly wasn't told that the CIA had - rather than put them in place in the future - were already using them.
The report that challenged her on this concedes that it could very well have been inaccurate.
Further, of course, being informed in a top secret national security briefing that your own government is considering breaking the law - doesn't make you culpable when they actually do. You can't even tell anybody about it - not without breaking the National Security laws.
But what makes me smile is the message you're putting out there, Joe: "Democrats who even give Republicans the time of day should be thrown in jail, along with the slimy, torturing, people they're being cordial to."
Usually I hear this from the ultra-left wingnuts. It's pretty amusing to hear it from a torture loving hate filled nutcase right wing bigot like yourself. Misery loves company - in jail?
