Teabagger Protest = Litter

Kari Chisholm FacebookTwitterWebsite

It seems that the teabaggers protesting at the Oregon State Capitol think it's appropriate to leave their crap all over the place.

Memo to teabaggers: If you're so concerned about government spending, how about cleaning up your mess - rather than expecting government employees to clean up for you? Didn't your parents teach you to leave a place better than you found it?

Perhaps they were expecting that state employees would be doing the cleanup, based on the taxes paid to hire...oh, wait.

Considering the Urban Dictionary definition of teabagging (now we know why rightwingers are called "nutjobs"), and the recent discussion on BO regarding Monty Python and taxes, I offer this:

I just drove by City Hall in Newport, and there's probably a good one hundred people down there teabagging. Unreal. I always suspected that Rush Limbaugh and Co. had some interesting fetishes, but I never expected them to rile up such an ardent group of teabaggers.

Not to mention diverse! There were people in the crowd ranging from elderly white folks all the way down to late-middle-aged white folks! I never knew so many people were into teabagging!

Disgusting! All those paper signs are worse than the mess the homeless 'protesters' left in front of the Portland city hall a few months back.

Of course I didn't see BO protesting the time/money spent by city employees to clean up that mess. Gosh, I wonder why....

THE TAXMAN COMETH… Why just complain about paying taxes when you can SING about complaining about paying taxes?!? Watch “Goin’ to the C.P.A. (The Tax Song)” at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K-Groi6Ziio

Blast-off of Florida was one of the credentialed blogs at the Dem Nat'l Convention. He showed up at at Florida teabagger party today and was able to give a short speech. He sets them up by asking who makes less than 250K a year. Crowd roars. Then he lowers the boom. Wheee! Kari, you may have met him. Check it out: http://flprogressive.blogspot.com/

I was at the one in Eugene as one of the handful of liberals. i don't think i changed any minds on taxes but i did talk with some folks about the employee free choice act.

I was told that a liberal had been arrested but did not see it.

Not one could name a program to get rid of aside from a well-off old guy who said that social security was a ponzi scheme. i wonder if he'll give back his benefits...

Apparently Texas Gov. Rick Perry is the darling of the tea-bagger set. Perhaps he has his eyes set on the GOP nomination. He can run on the "Secessionist" platform. That should bring the GOP back with a bang! http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2009/04/15/gov-rick-perry-texas-coul_n_187490.html

It appears that they only like conservative tax cuts for the rich, not liberal tax cuts for the middle class.

And they wonder why people question their intelligence.

Glad you good folks up there in beautiful Oregon liked the video. It went a lot smoother than I anticipated when I first stepped to the megaphone, I'll say that much! :)

And yes, I met Kari -- actually in Denver during the convention, at a great "Trick or Vote" party. Good times.

BTW, really enjoyed my time in Oregon last September. Portland was awesome, and I even did my webradio show live from Eugene.

    Anyway, thanks again!

I was down at the Square and ran into the group on my way home from work. I was suprised, then shocked, and then I got sick.

Of course, Sarah over at the Portland Mercury reported that, "Much of the resulting thousand-person crowd seemed to be straddling that fine far-fringe line between libertarians and anarchists." I'm positive she hasn't a clue about what that means, but she wrote it anyway. There were no anarchists at the rally that I saw - but it's possible she has mistaken a few liberal hating rednecks for anarchists. She's probably from the suburbs too.

Which reminds me - I do miss the days when those pesky punks were around. Would have loved to see a few hundred of the Black Bloc shouting down some proud guns owning right wing Christain Republicans. Sadly, there wasn't any counter push back. The crazies literally walked into Portland and held a succesful rally in our living room. However you slice it, they walked away w/a W, and that's going to feed their flame.

However, I was able to pick up some very interesting reading on guns and god while reading some Jefferson Davis oh wait, I mean Thomas Jefferson quotes. I even got a wristband with Angles on it.

I guess boredom and unemployment do have their place I guess. It seemed there was a lot of people there. Don't they have jobs? Of course not, that's why they are there.

So it begs the question - if you are unemployed, you don't pay taxes now. So why complain about them if you don't pay them anyway?

They were ther out of boredom. They needed something to do with their newly found time on thier hands.

"Yup.. the same truck with the confederate flag and the KKK insignia on the window, is the one that shoots the road sign and throws the beer cans all over the highway."

No amount of juvenile ridicule or derision from elitists can marginalize the anger and frustration shown by a large segment of the public over the unfair and excessive taxation inherent in our system today.

We are witnessing a grassroots reaction to inept government decisions that are directly effecting peoples lives. Politicians ignore this at their own risk.

"No amount of juvenile ridicule or derision from elitists can marginalize the anger and frustration shown by a large segment of the public over the unfair and excessive taxation inherent in our system today."

It's not that unfair. It's the only thing anyone can do, or could have done, after we, selfishly I may add, passed short sighted measures like M5 and expected to still have public luxories (sp) like libraries and schools.

We basically cut off our noses to spite our faces.

We have no one to blame but ourselves. Until we repeal M5 and other shortsighted and selfish measures, we will still have to face what selfish, petty, and short sighted people have given us.

For those who saw Kari's post as simply an anti-litter post, and point to other protests that leave behind detritus - it wasn't.

It's a post noting the irony of people who don't want to pay taxes and yet expect an unpaid "someone" to clean up after them.

    Hi Buckman Res.

Candidate Obama drew 80,000 people to his rally in Portland.

Your teabaggin' rally here drew about 800, including the homeless guys and the skinheads.

So, for every ONE confused Republican, there are 100 happy Democrats.

Evan, Does that mean Kari's post was "noting the irony of people who don't want to pay taxes and yet expect an unpaid "someone" to clean up after them," and, the irony of homeless rallies for people to get more government services but who don't pay taxes to support them?

  • (Show?)

the irony of homeless rallies for people to get more government services but who don't pay taxes to support them?

Odd. I pay lots of taxes. I also go to rallies to support low-income and homeless.

    Weird.

    Kari,

With the greatest respect, you don't know what you are talking about.

The steps of the State Capitol were left far cleaner than they were found. I know, because a number of us stayed around and not only picked up every piece of litter, but swept up the dust on the steps.

I understand all your political objections to the "Tea-Party" protest, but please don't promulgate the false assumption that we left a mess behind.

The contrary is absolutely the case, and many of us worked hard to ensure we had a minimal impact on the Capitol and left it cleaner than we found it.

Carla, You make my point exactly. As does Tim, above. You no more go to rallies to create waste and increase work for others than did the 'teabaggers.' You go to the protest to make a political point, much as the 'teabaggers' did. Like them, you more than likely did it within the law. I may agree or disagree with either your protest or those held yesterday but I believe that both are carried out by well meaning folks with an agenda.....much as Kari had an agenda in making this post. The difference is that you probably go to a protest to make you point and do no harm. You view your effort as a net positive. It looks like Kari's effort is purely negative. He doesn't like the 'teabag' protest. So he looks for things to substantiate his feelings and finding something that appears to do so, strikes out at the protest. If Tim is correct, Kari made a mistake born out of his dislike of the 'tea' protest. Wouldn't he have been better off giving voice to opposing views to those held by the protesters?

Carla, You make my point exactly. As does Tim, above. You no more go to rallies to create waste and increase work for others than did the 'teabaggers.'

What appears to be missing from your equation Tom--is the irony. Those who went to this rally oppose taxes (some oppose all taxes, based on the signage they brought) and government spending. The idea that the teabaggers would leave signs behind for paid government folks to have to clean up (thus necessitating more government spending)--is a study in irony.

Whether they intended to create the irony or not isn't the point.
