2010: Walden for Governor? Maybe. Walden for Senate? Not a chance.
Kari Chisholm
Well, Congressman Greg Walden is keeping the door open to running for Governor in 2010. But he's slammed the door shut on running against Senator Ron Wyden.
From Southern Oregon's KDRV-12:
Speaking in Medford Friday, Walden says he is not ruling out a bid for governor during the next election cycle. However, he says the idea of running against Democratic Senator Ron Wyden would be "totally, patently, absurd".
Read the rest and watch the video at KDRV.

I simply don’t understand, nor has any conservative satisfactory explained, how a politician tied to the right-wing of the GOP has any shot at winning the Portland suburbs -- and it’s places like that where they have to win to be elected statewide. Within the cities of Portland, Salem, and Eugene, Walden would get run over.
Carrying Malheur County is all well and good, but unless they begin to allow Mule Deer, Antelope, and Big-Horn Sheep to vote, it doesn’t go too far.
The Republicans need a moderate politician like, say, Lincoln Chafee to step up and challenge conservative dogma.
Unless and until that happens, enjoy the wilderness, GOP.

In the current economic and political environment in Oregon, I do not think a Republican has a chance of being elected statewide. But the economy, and the mood of the public towards those in charge, the Democrats, can change a lot in a year (primary) or a year and one-half (general). I noted on my own blog (here) that the Economist Intelligence Unit is forecasting a 30% chance that the global depression will persist and a 10% chance that the dollar will collapse and everything goes in the toilet, including Oregon politics as we now know it. Walden has to be wondering about that 40% opportunity.

Greg Walden is probably tired of being a member of the minority party in the house. Rather than just retire he can run for Governor and hope his opponent will self destruct. He will certainly do better than Atkinson or Alley.
Who are we going to nominate?

The Gov. campaign we deserve is one of serious debates on issues--more Obama vs. McCain (no doubt where they disagreed) than Kulongoski vs. Saxton which was mostly shallow attacks.

THREE TIMES I watched the video and at NO point does Walden say he is running or considering running or keeping his options open to run.
If Walden had any stance, it was not shown in the video and it is the central part of that article, that video clip, and this article here. It is a bunch of "she-said-he-said," and I think they are putting an unrelated clip with their dialogue.
I think this is tripe put out because of what Jim Mapes, the political hack of the Oregonian, is putting out.

"The Republicans need a moderate politician like, say, Lincoln Chafee to step up and challenge conservative dogma."
Oh you mean like Gordon Smith? You guys are ridiculous. 2008 was all about giving you Republicans that "Challenged the Conservative dogma," and we all saw how that went down.
Stop trying to help us define the Republican party. Just focus on bringing "Change." It seems you have your hands pretty full with that right now.

Murphy, "I simply don’t understand, nor has any conservative satisfactory explained, how a politician tied to the right-wing of the GOP has any shot at winning the Portland suburbs"
Can you expand on this last statement?
