Bob Tiernan's lesson in the permanent entrenched minority: a follow-up

I noted here previously the prickery engaged in by GOP Chair Bob Tiernan for filing a frivilous, stupid and otherwise wasteful ethics complaint against Oregon Senate President Peter Courtney.
On Tuesday, a bipartisan committee of Oregon Senators agreed with me.
Looks like Bob will have to go back to the drawing board to fire up the base whilst alienating everyone else in Oregon. Carry on, dude.

First he manages to bring about the first bipartisnship of the year - a unanimous decision on the ethics charge - and then the dumbass manages to raise Wyden a lot of off-year money he wouldn't have raised otherwise (with his stupid claim that Smith may run against Wyden; like Wyden needed the help on the money front!). We are going to love Tiernan. He almost never has an end game in mind before he acts or speaks.

Wonder how Bob is going to like the insertion in the stimulus package that governors (including Republican governors against the stimulus package) requires that the stimulus allocations must be spent within 45 days. If governors sit on the stimulus money, after 45 days the authority to spend the money goes to state legislatures.
Meanwhile, Oregon, according to Realty Track is now #5 in the nation in the percentage of houses in foreclosure. One out of 357 homes in Oregon are in some type of foreclosure.
It's like the Republicans are living in a different world while the people two floors below have flames and smoke pouring into their offices. The people living above started the fire over 8 years ago and now the flames are moving upstairs.
Destructive complacency seems to have infected the Republican party. They can deny, deny, deny and deny but real life situations are different. Somebody might try telling Bob that these are turbulent times, not business-as-usual times.

Shouldn't be an issue, should it? Ted was for the stimulus. The clause was put in there to get oppositional goobs like Clyburn in SC, to either reject the money and look like a tool, or accept it and look like a hypocrite. That's the thought, anyway.

The House stimulus package just passed without any Republican votes. Looks like the party of bitter & no alternatives. 2010 looks to be interesting indeed.

Since you are OK ok with calling men "pricks" or "dicks" so I wonder if you would similarly be ok with using derisive terms for the female genitalia to describe female politicians.

Could Oregon be doing something wrong?
Like driving out job with crazy polices? Like artificially creating land shortages which permit housing bubbles. (Most areas with few land use controls did not have bubbles - a bubble requires a shortage to form. Simple economics.) And most of California has stricter land use than Oregon, so don’t believe the apologists that say California had a bubble too.

Please, OBVIOUSLY there is and was a conflict of interest. Your failure to admit such further limits your credibility. What you meant to say is that this TYPE of conflict of interest is OK with YOU. Correct? This is why we as a state and nation are in a heep of crap, cuz folks like you put up Courtney's "I forgot" excuses and let this stuff go on. Just say it, you dont give a shit about conflicts of interest, period. Like Ted appointing his buddy to the carbon cap and credit committee, even when the guy has an existing carbon credit business? You have no honor.

Actually, I'd prefer no conflict of interest exists in the legislature. But to do that, we'd need to eliminate the citizen legislature model and likely move to annual sessions, with increased salary for legislators and staff.
Given that Legislative Counsel and a bipartisan committee says that Courtney is well-within the boundaries--that makes me right and Tiernan wrong.
I'm good with that.

There was an asterisk with those numbers for Oregon *Actual increase may not be as high due to data collection changes or improvements
Lets not read too much into that data just yet.

One major reason is the level of benefits we afford families here in Oregon, namely health insurance for kids. Many unemployed stay in Oregon for those benefits instead of leaving for better opportunities. This is one reason why we have traditionally higher unemployment.
(No, I don't have the source. It was an article I read several years ago)

A better to question to ask is who appointed the members of this bipartisan panel anyway?
It wasn't perhaps Sen. Courtney himself (the most influential member of the Senate)?
Carla, I got to hand it to you. Instead of trying to sweep this embarrassment under the rug you endeavor to turn it into a victory with a little PR judo (all the while impersonating a journalist).
Congratulations on continuing to keep your proboscis firmly implanted in the backsides of the people with influence.

Pancho--if you wanna continue to push Tiernan to ride this loser, by all means. Knock yourself out. It will continue to marginalize the rest of Oregon against the state version of the Republican Party.
If you're not willing to actually engage on substantive policy stuff, then you deserve to be relegated to the margins of Oregon politics.
Make no mistake, that's the path on which Tiernan's leading you.

Agreed. Oregon was one of four states with that disclaimer, one of which was Vermont which lists only 6 houses bought back by the bank and zero foreclosures for the entire state, which calls into question the validity of the data for those 4 states.

Calling someone a "prick" or "dick" is juvenile and demeaning. Just one person's opinion but obviously one that is shared.
And I do think if people started calling female politicians "cts" or "psies" that there would be quite a bit of complaint.
It is possible to be edgy and critical without being sophomoric. Just a suggestion from someone who likes what you do here.

I don't write to appease the opinions of others, Paul. For me, its a waste of time and energy to haggle over it. I make the choices I make. If you or others don't like them..then you don't. I have no intention of lessening my efforts because it doesn't suit every taste.
I appreciate that you like what I do here. But you will find that I am generally unmoved by petulant scoldings over word choice.
