Bloggers rule the Mapes contest roost.

Carla Axtman

That's right, we're AWESOME:

Kevin Kamberg and Carla Axtman are political junkies bigtime. They met while participating in an online Senate simulation (yeah, I don't quite understand it either), co-founded the blog Preemptive Karma and were both big supporters of Democrat Jeff Merkley's Senate campaign.

They are also the uncannily accurate winners of Way West of the Beltway's fabulous Election Contest. Kamberg is the big winner, coming within fourteen-hundredths of a percentage point of predicting the correct percentages for the three candidates in Oregon's U.S. Senate race. Axtman was close behind, just sixteen-hundredths of a percentage point off.

The funny part is, Kevin and I didn't talk about our prognostications before we submitted them. So neither of us had any idea what the other was doing...Heh.

Mapes is sending me the official Oregonlive umbrella--which unfortunately won't be here in time for the latest weather pattern.

Heck, I didn't even know that you'd entered the contest. Although I wasn't the least surprised that you did, nor that you nearly nailed it. But I am totally surprised that I did as well as I did.

IMO the really smart money would want to crib off of you rather than me. I was mostly just lucky. In fact, I actually only guessed to within a quarter of a percentage point whereas you obviously tried to cut it much finer - proof IMHO that mine was as much dumb luck as political acumen.

    Still... 0.02 difference... Wow!
