LYNN HOWE for State Representative.
Republican Sal Esquivel has served two terms representing Medford's District #6 in the Oregon House. Many of you remember Esquivel was a chief petitioner on the attempt to overturn Oregon's civil union legislation. The petition drive was not successful.
"Speaking of the economy, Esquivel says Oregon's is stable. We don't know if that reflects misguided optimism or ignorance on his part, but we find it troubling.""Esquivel has served two moderately productive terms, but his plans for a third leave us underwhelmed."
I wrote yesterday about Senator Wyden, Jeff Merkley and John Kroger all campaigning for Lynn. She is a quality candidate who needs our help. Sal has bushels of out of state cash flowing into his campaign from Philip Morris, realtors, developers, contracters and landscaping PACs. All the usual suspects have chipped in to finance Esquivel's campaign, Eli Lilly, Oregon Bankers PAC, Oregon Restaurant PAC, Natural Gas Action Committee and more. Lynn Howe will work closely with Rep. Peter Buckley and Sen. Alan Bates working to pass health care legislation. Lynn has a 25 year background as a health-care administrator, experience that will be invaluable as lawmakers tackle health care reform.

Good for the Medford Mail Tribune! They have recognize the great opportunity that Lynn Howe represents. She is smart, capable, organized and has put together one of the best grassroots campaigns in the state. I'm confused. You highlight special interests and out of state money, however I don't see any "out of state" contributiosn from Developers or Realtors. It's also interesting to see that Win PAC, UAW Region 5 Western States PAC, United Transportation Union, Oregon Nurses PAC and IBEW has contributed to Lynn. Are they not considered special interest? If so, please explain!

The difference is between the few and the many. Eli Lilly, Oregon Bankers PAC, Oregon Restaurant PAC, Natural Gas Action Committee represent a small number of business interests. The unions and professional organizations supporting Howe represent a large number of workers.
Few = special interest.
Many = general interest.

I'd judge that by the political lobbying that businesses and industry lobbies do. Very little of it is in their employees' interests.
An example: the Oregon Restaurant Association lobbies long and hard for a tip credit so they can pay waiters less than minimum wage.

Thank you Kari. It's been a great day at the Jackson County Democratic Headquarters. People are going out in shifts to lit drop for Lynn Howe and Saturday and Sunday a massive canvas is planned. In a formerly Red county an endorsement by the Trib is huge. The Medford Chamber PAC took the easy route and didn't endorse Sal or Lynn.
Sal opposed legislation requiring health insurance companies to notify the public of rate increases. He was rewarded with a contribution from Lifewise, a health insurance company, just before they raised rates by 27%.
Sal admits the healthcare system is broken but voted no on legislation that would have insured over 100,000 children through a tobacco tax. He was rewarded with contributions from Phillip Morris and U.S. Smokeless Tabacco Company.
Sal says he supports education but voted against development paying its fair share to improve school facilities. He was rewarded with campaign contributions fro realtors, developers, contractors and landscaping PACs.
It is time to elect Lynn Howe to the House of Reps.

Thanks, Paul: you rounded out the roll call, allowing us to see who supports this candidate in more of an entirety.
For those of us feel the "special interests" of the working class should be lobbied alongside those of the money and business elite, being able to see those union/PAC endorsements potentially asserts to the base.
