HD-26: Wingard vs. Adamson

AdamsonwingardHD 26 is a district that includes Sherwood, Wilsonville, and unincorporated parts of Washington County. The Democratic candidate is Jessica Adamson, a staffer with Associated General Contractors. The Republican candidate is Matt Wingard, a charter-schools activist who has been under fire for his child abuse conviction.

The Sherwood Gazette has recently endorsed Jessica Adamson:

Adamson, a mother of three and a resident of Sherwood, well represents the growing number of young families with kids. Yet she does so without giving up on the important value that District 26 residents place on jobs, effectiveness in government, worker rights and public safety.

A volunteer in Sherwood schools and a member of the school district budget committee, Adamson understands the balance between educating kids in the best possible way and doing so within the limitations of state funding and local taxpayers’ support. ...

Wingard has Congressional staff and public policy credentials. He emphasizes limited government and free market policies. He opposes new taxes including transportation fee increases and says that funding should provide for more highways and buses and not light rail. He favors charter schools and tax credits for families who place their children in charter schools. ...

[W]hen balancing the qualifications and public policy viewpoints of the candidates — and Wingard’s admitted conviction for striking his son — we find ourselves strongly in favor of Adamson. She has strong experience working with diverse legislators in a pressure packed environment is a definite plus. And her commitment to family, school and community will serve her very well in Salem.

    what I can't quite understand, is that Wingard has signs up by my house..in HD 35. Right around the Hall and 99W intersection.

    Well, aside from being a reactionary child abuser and deadbeat dad, he's a very confused young man. He very likely doesn't understand where his district ends.

    But the major point is that he has neither the temperment nor the basic moral sense to be a legislator.

    By contrast, Adamson is ready on day one to be a legislator, having worked within the legislative halls for a dozen years and possessing a judicious temperment. Her aim to put policy before politics and to work across political lines is a second indication of judicious temperment and fitness to serve as a legislator.

    The contrast between Adamson and the care-less young man she opposes is most stark when it comes to children. Adamson's passion for education is way up at the top of her legislative agenda. The opponent's approach to his own child and his parsimonious political philosophy makes it evident that children and education might not be at the top of his agenda.

    I am disappointed that Adamson refuses to run as a Democrat. Her mailers say nothing about being a Democrat, and some go on about how good Republicans are. I want a representative who is a proud Democrat and who realizes what enormous problems Republicans have caused in Oregon over the past couple of decades. I will of course not vote for Wingard, but I haven't decided to vote for Adamson.

    I want a representative who is a proud Democrat and who realizes what enormous problems Republicans have caused in Oregon over the past couple of decades.

    It can take quite some time for Battered Democrat Syndrome to heal. Several election cycles even.
