Darcy Burner: Great Ad

T.A. Barnhart

Absolutely Novickian. Send her some money to help get rid of the GOP lackey in Bellevue.

That's great! Does Sen. Tester have some background in hair care that I am unaware of?

I love how Mr. Novick is now the standard for awesome campaign ads.

Tester is famous for his buzzcut. he used it for his own ads in Montana.

On the topic of NW congressional candidates, I tried looking up Kevin Mannix's campaign website, and what surprise did I find?

Not just that he has none, less than two months from the primary date (and only about one month from when ballots go out), but searching for "kevin mannix for oregon" turns up his initiative website instead!

Seriously, www.mannixfororegon.org produces the message "This page has been moved to www.oregoninitiativesreport.com"---- now that's what I call truth in advertising! His congressional run is all about ginning up support for his initiative business!

Furthermore, on that website, you find the sole mention on the internet from Mannix that he's running for Congress, with the only link connecting you to, seriously, his snail mail address and phone number!

What a dinosaur! Oh boy, I'm hoping Erickson slaughters him, what with Erickson already having hit the air in that district http://blog.oregonlive.com/mapesonpolitics/2008/03/erickson_first_up_with_tv_adve.html and having an actual website (what a concept!).

Weird how these Montana politicians have a thing about hair. Check out this 2002 ad from the US Senate race in Montana. It's a classic.

Thanks for the info, T.A. I think Ms. Burner's hair looks fine, for whatever it's worth.

Kari - the Baucus ad may be "classic" in that it had a strong impact and was very memorable, but I think it's also worth pointing out that it had strongly homophobic overtones, and was regarded at the time as having sunk especially low for a Democratic candidate, even in Montana. There's a big difference between Darcy Burner having fun with fellow Democrat Tester's flat top and Baucus playing on anti-gay sentiment in attacking his opponent. In other words, it wasn't just about the hair.

Great ad! Burner is one of only 15 Congressional candidates nationwide to be endorsed by the Council for a Livable World. Merkley is one of the others in that elite club.

they can't get them all right, I guess.

Good point TJ. One has to wonder what posessed these people to support a guy who has been:

The Portland director for Habitat for Humanity, started the Walk for Humanity, launched development of the Habitat Home Building Center, and initiated a pilot project for YouthBuild in which gang-affected youth learn construction and life skills while building homes in their own neighborhoods, went on from there to serve as Director of Housing Development at Human Solutions, where he worked to make available affordable housing complexes and launching Oregon’s first Individual Development Account (IDA) program that helps low-income families save money to buy homes, attend college, or start businesses. Add to that his stint as President of the World Affairs Council of Oregon for seven years..........

Best guess? They can do a Wiki with the best of 'em.

Looks like Darcy's in good company both in the endorsements and in the barber's chair.
