Nice. I wrote a little story about the Oregon Capitol about six weeks ago on the Washington County Democrats website, and linked to the wiki article and other sources. Read "My Lunch at the Capitol" at Washocdems Blogs. (Try the Garden Burger in the Capitol basement cafe, it's to die for!) And while you're there, you can vote on our latest Political Poll, regarding the Leg in special session. If my link does not work (50/50 chance) use www.washcodem.org.

The Oregon State Capitol undoubtedly is one of the ugliest buildings in America, a graceless pile of stone with what looks like the top tier of a wedding cake stuck on the top. An architectural abomination.

I've always thought it looked like a bowling trophy.

Andrew, thanks for posting this!
This is the result of a big labor of love, and many volunteer hours. By far the most were from Wikipedia editors Aboutmovies and Katr67, who are tireless in their dedication to improving Wikipedia's record of Oregon.
Anybody interested in joining this effort should check out [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:WikiProject_Oregon WikiProject Oregon], where we organize (heh, "organize") our efforts. It's fun, and really satisfying to see the articles about Oregon subjects grow at an amazing rate.
Our current "Collaboration of the Week" articles are [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oregon_State_Penitentiary Oregon State Penitentiary] and [http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bill_Sizemore Bill Sizemore]. Jump on in!

Sorry, I posted the links above in wiki code! If somebody can remove the first version of this comment, that would be great.

Is just me but the old capitol had stature and classical grace. The "new" building has always looked like a cheap Mormon temple. Gordon Smith is a mormon and was senate president....how many other mormons are current legislators? Perhaps they are mistakenly attracted to the bronze pioneer but haven't noticed there's no gold trumpet?
