ah, yes, this is about the time when Edwards started his attacks in Iowa on Dean (with the help of the Clark campaign). and we got such a great candidate out of that effort (including the Amazing Invisible VP Candidate). it's always great when the Dems can do the Republicans' work for them. John Edwards, reverting to form: Desperate Measures for a Desperate Candidate.

I think you're pointing your cannons in the wrong direction, T.A. It was Gebhardt's people who took out Dean with the Howard Dean morphs into bin laden" video, not Edwards.
Hillary Clinton represents the Joe Lieberman wing of the Democratic party. Her biggest funding partners are investment banks, and she has taken more money than any candidate in this race (D's and R's) from the defense industry. That's enough for me to want to see her beaten in the primary.

I'm with you, Sal. Where is Hillary on the problems of poor people, or the problems of veterans? Is she so cocky she is "positioning herself for the general election" before anyone has cast a vote in a caucus or primary?
What if any campaign finance reform proposals does she support?
I'm getting tired of "women support her because she is a woman", as I've been involved in those kinds of fights going back 3 decades. I support the best candidate. In the past it was Barbara Roberts over Dave Frohnmayer, but it was not Margie Hendricksen over Peter DeFazio or Ruth McFarland over the men who ran against her in 2 primaries.
Hillary Clinton seems to be running a more consultant-driven race than any of the other presidential candidates.

Ugh, TA, we can disagree but let's be truthful, okay? Sal is right, it was Gephardt in 2004. Edwards ran clean in 2004 and I love his tenacity this go around.

Well, as an Edwards supporter, I have to say Clinton's looking downright presidential in her double talk.
Of course, some of this is the effect of soundbite politics -- trying to answer complex questions in 30 seconds, while not angering voters who can be swayed by a 30 second ad.
It reflects poorly on America's engagement in democracy. Sigh.

LT, I'm with you....I vote for the person, not the gender. I can't count the number of women I've encountered who state they are going to support Clinton because she's a woman. When I ask what policies or ideas of Clinton's they support or why they are choosing her over Edwards, Obama, Kucinich or anyone else in the race, they reply like they are reading from a script: "this is a historic race. We have the chance to put the first woman ever in the White House". Well, yippee, skippee. Talk about setting back feminism. These folks are guilty of doing exactly what they've been fighting against their whole lives---they are basing decisions entirely on gender and not on intellect, ability, or leadership. I'm not naive enough to think that most of the public doesn't factor her gender in, but c'mon. Making decisions about who is going to the country based on their genitilia is just plain stupid.

I know this is a little late to get into this debate, but the significant point here is "soundbite politics." Hillary's responses are just too nuanced for the talking heads of TV-land and the simpletons who moderate these debates. I'm reminded of I think Mark Twain's statement, that "For every complex problem, there is a very simple solution......usually wrong!"

Hillary Clinton is SO disappointing. She is so smart, so articulate, such a strong woman, such a tool of the wealthy interests that are destroying this nation and this world.

Jack Lorts,

There is a big difference between complexity and internal inconsistency. Hillary is the one playing with soundbites. You can hear her say whatever you like, because she takes all sides of all controversial issues.
