Excellent question Senator Dodd, here's hoping they answer it.

Too bad he wasn't so eloquent when asked during the debate by Blitzer:
BLITZER: What is more important, human rights or national security?
DODD: Obviously, national security, keeping the country safe. When you take the oath of office on January 20, you promise to do two things, and that is to protect and defend the Constitution of the United States and protect our country against enemies both foreign and domestic. The security of the country is number one, obviously.
But hey, it was a stupid question by Blitzer, and I'm glad Dodd is coming back to it.

The whole bunch could benefit by a basic course in logic. Human (or civil) rights and security are not mutually exclusive. For every question one can posit of a situation where security might be enhanced by a violation of someone's rights, another can be posited to the opposite effect. And the issue of absolutes in behavior and morality are ignored.

Evan Manvel is correct; it was a VERY stupid question made more so by Blitzer's insistence on a "yes" or "no" answer which precludes the opportunity to see if the candidate has even a vague notion of the conundrum presented.
