Wayne Scott Stepping Down

Wayne Scott is stepping down from his leadership role in the House will not seek re-election next year.

Waynesworld_2 "I am grateful to the citizens of House District 39 for giving me the opportunity to serve as their state representative," Scott said in a 3:30 p.m. press release. "I am very proud of what we have accomplished together over the past five years. But now is the right time to step aside from public life and enjoy being with my family...."

Scott said he will serve the remainder of his two-year House term, which ends in January 2009. He said he looked forward to working with the House Republicans' next leader to gain seats in next year's elections.

"Oregonians saw a clear distinction between the caucuses during the past session, particularly on taxes, public safety and immigration," he said. "I'm confident Oregonians will elect House Republicans and restore fiscal responsibility to state government."

Scott has been a mainstay on BlueOregon, which has followed his strong-arm tactics and dubious lawmaking. He is the latest high-profile Republican to announce his retirement from the legislature.

    No kiddng. Where's it at?

we'll drink at least one round to his memory at Drinking Liberally tomorrow, i'm sure. Minnis and Scott, both walking away in the same term. life is good!

There's just an outside chance that the witty and talented Mr. Scott has his eye on a paying position on the (not yet) newly minted five member Clackamas County Commission.

We currently have Martha Schrader and Lynn Petersen in place, but Wayno lives within spitting distance of Martha's house in Canby, and I'm sure that Kennemer and and Wayne have something cooking to stack the deck when it goes to five.......

In this case, what's good for Oregon could turn out to be a Clack County nightmare.........

Interesting point Pat. Let's hope the boiler-plate "spend more time with his family and grandkids" means just that, and not what you speculate. Though being in Washington County, I see the Wayne being able to just f*ck-up Clackamas County and not the state as a net gain (though not as much as if Wayne just left public life entirely).

Any word if his last opponent, that spunky Mike guy from Canby, will be back at it?

  • (Show?)

Well, it is probably safe to assume that he is happy about this news.

Thanks for the "spunky" comment and as I said above I am very happy about this news and look forward to doing whatever is in the best interest of the party in getting this seat back in our ranks! Mike

Na na na na. Na na na na, hey hey hey good bye.

I don't like Republican beliefs but few of them lied as much as Scott. Good riddance to bad rubbish.

Wayne, Don't let the door hit you where the good lord split you!

Its about time. Wayne has been a bully in the Oregon legislature and does not have a clue about what it means to govern and be an effective steward for the public. Bye bye wayne!
