Gordon Smith: Anti-war? Not hardly.
Today, Gordon Smith announced that he'll co-sponsor legislation to pull American troops out of Iraq. From the O's blog:
Sen. Gordon Smith, R-Ore., will be the lead Republican co-sponsor of legislation that would withdraw most U.S. troops from Iraq by the spring of 2008.Under the proposed amendment to the Defense Department authorization bill, sponsored by Democratic Sens. Carl Levin of Michigan and Jack Reed of Rhode Island, the United States would begin withdrawing troops within 120 days. It calls for withdrawal of all troops but those involved in counterterrorism efforts by the spring.
But, hold the phone. He's still supporting John McCain for President:
Smith has been among a small group of senators advising Sen. John McCain's presidential campaign. The Arizona Republican, however, has supported President Bush's strategy of increasing troops in Iraq and in a statement on the Senate floor today cautioned against withdrawal.
The Democratic Party of Oregon released a commercial today that asks a simple question:
Where will Gordon Smith's "leadership" take American forces next? Watch the commercial over at StopGordonSmith.com.
Discuss over there.
