Congrats to Brandon
Jeff Alworth
Even before he played a game, Brandon Roy was the odds-on fave to win Rookie of the Year. So it's not a shocker that he was given that honor yesterday on a runaway vote (the local Toronto writer voted for home-town kid Andrea Bargnani, spoiling the unanimity). Brandon averaged 17 points a game, shot 46% from the field (great for a rook), and developed as the team leader in just one short year.
But here is a statistic you're not likely to read about that characterizes just how great his season was: 59,415. That's the announced attendence over the last three Blazer home games (an average of 19,805), pretty remarkable for a team that finished 32-50 on the season. This isn't the Jailblazers team whom Stumptowners supported tepidly and never loved. For the first time since Clyde, Terry, and Jerome, we had a team to take pride in. And now that Paul Allen has finally squared away the Rose Garden, it looks like he'll be keeping the team around for awhile.
For the first time in years, we have a reason to be hopeful. Good job, Brandon (and Ime, LaMarcus, Zach, Sergio, and Jarrett), you're making us proud to be fans again.

First! Nice post Jeff! Roy is awesome! The Blazer-haters have few remaining excuses to complain about the team. The team has a long-way to go, but they are certainly headed in the right direction.

Congratulation Roy on the ROY.
But one thing, could people please stop sending hate mail to the one voter that didn't vote for Roy for Rookie of the Year.
He voted for his home town guy. There is nothing wrong about that.
Also just because our team used to be know a thugs doesn't mean our fans have to act like them.

Yep, way to go Brandon. Not bad for a Husky. Had you chosen to play for Oregon, you'd probably be league MVP now, but at least you landed in the right state. Cozy up to Fred Jones and he'll fill you in on what you missed at UW.
Readers should all take a step back and pay a little respect to Raef LaFrentz and Danny Ainge. Danny did the double agent thing and rewarded his home state and former club with a great trade. We got rid of illegal-gun-totin' Telfair and Theo Ratliff for LaFrentz, Dickau, and the 7th overall pick that became.... Brandon Roy. Portland got the Rookie of the Year and Boston got to be the worst team in the NBA.
