Oregon House Republicans: Who's plagiarizing who?
Kari Chisholm
Damn.
The Oregon House Republicans must think Oregonians are a stupid and backwards bunch of luddite rubes. Or at least, they think the local media are. Have they never heard of the internet tubes?
Check this out.
State Rep. Bruce Hanna (R-Lane/Douglas) submitted a guest op-ed to the Eugene Register-Guard. Here's the second paragraph:
Fortunately, there is a bill to provide dedicated funding for the Oregon State Police. I have co-sponsored House Bill 3535 to permanently dedicate 1 percent of the general fund revenue dollars ($127 million) to a special fund for OSP's Patrol Division. It ensures round-the-clock coverage by putting 140 troopers back on the road to cover major highways, allows for future growth, and does not raise taxes.
State Reps. Kevin Cameron and Vicki Berger (both R-Salem) submitted a guest op-ed to the Salem Statesman-Journal.
Oh sure, there's a few words and phrases they've doctored up to be different - but these state legislators have basically bamboozled the local editorial boards.
So, here's what I want to know: Who actually wrote this stuff? And who's bright idea was it to send it out over multiple bylines?
We all know that political staffers often ghost-write stuff for their principals, but man... submitting the same work for two different "authors" -- that's some seriously lazy staffer.

Brian: No. No, please! Please! Please listen. I've got one or two things to say. Followers (in unison): Tell us. Tell us both of them. Brian: Look. You've got it all wrong. You don't need to follow me. You don't need to follow anybody! You've got to think for yourselves. You're all individuals! Followers (in unison): Yes, we're all individuals! Brian: You're all different! Followers (in unison): Yes, we are all different! Dennis: I'm not. Followers (in unison): Shh. Shhhh. Shhh.

Don't forget this April 6 op-ed from the Roseburg News Review.
This one in the Canby Herald.
This one in the Gresham Outlook.
And this on on Rep. Berger's website.
Using a little creative backward induction, that document's author is identified at Kevin Curry. Mr. Curry used to be communications director for then House Speaker Minnis. As that computer would now likely be used by Wayne Scott's communications director, the original author is probably Nick Scott. (Which also just makes common sense cause he drafts materials for the Republican caucus.)

Nice (not!) of you to post the guy's personal documents, including his home address. Hope he doesn't get stalked.

Anon -
When posting links in the future, don't forget to include "http://" in front of the "www." or many browsers will not be able to follow your links.
Phil Jones -
Nobody did "post" the guy's personal documents. A link (incorrectly formatted) was provided to information publicly placed on the Internet by the guy himself. It would turn up in any Google search for the guy.

Patty Smith wrote the same piece in the Hood River News- I knew something was fishy about it.
