Bev Stein for DPO Executive Director
T.A. Barnhart
I'm not sure what she's doing these days, but I hope the new leadership team at DPO talks to Bev Stein about the Executive Director position. I can't really think of anyone better. Her dedication to Oregon is a proven quantity, as her leadership skills. Her campaign for governor 5 years ago took her all across the state, helping her develop relationships with people who might previously thought her too much a part of Multnomah County. I have tremendous respect for Bev, and have done for years, since she was my neighbor and building towards her first run at office. I'm still proud that she was my state legislator back in those days.
We need someone with Bev's skills to head DPO: organizational abilities, a determination to be successful, a strong belief in the mission -- elect Democrats and build the Dem base. I'm sure she's probably happy with whatever she's doing these days, but we need her. Meredith, go find Bev and talk her into applying. Make your first move as Chair your smartest one.

Why not put her on the list as a possible candidate to run against Smith? She certainly has more guts than he has.

I think the title should be "Bev Stein for DPO Executive Director," right?
Wasn't a new Chair just elected?

Senate, Secretary of State, DPO Executive Director, I hope Bev tosses her hat in the ring for some office. I will certainly support her.

Jesse -- I've fixed TA's headline. Obviously, the Chair position is already taken.
And Phil, I'm with ya. She'd be great.

Can someone who thinks she's "great" explain why?
I don't know what she did at the County to win such plaudits, and her race for Governor didn't seem like much of anything at all.
I'm not trying to be negative, just curious. She seemed kind of odd to me. And the whole property tax assessment thing just seemed to go in the toilet under her.

I worked for Bev when she was the County Chair and I think she is a terrific leader. She is smart, hardworking, caring and honorable.
At Multnomah County Bev worked hard to ensure that the Government was running efficiently, and she did it in a way that was collaborative both with her colleagues on the County Commission and with the County's employees. She emphasized prevention as the best use of taxpayer dollars, and created a number of wonderful programs that continue to benefit the community, perhaps the best known being "SUN" schools.
Having said all that, I don't think Bev intends to go back into politics...but I'd love to be proven wrong.

TJ:
First, this job is open to all -- anyone can apply. Second, Meredith has made many decisions over the past 9 days, this would hardly be her "first" as Chair. Recommending Mike Radway as Treasurer and bringing Jason Leon back from DC to run the DPO on an interim basis are just two of the important decisions she's made so far.
