Inside the White House
To "real people" - those that don't actually work inside the game of politics - the inside workings, strategies, and tactics of a campaign can be tough to understand. Political professionals have their own lingo, their own counter-intuitive ways of doing things, their own intricate knowledge of how ideas become messages, and messages become powerful phrases that move people to action.
Well, this short four-minute documentary is an important contribution to the academic study of presidential speechwriting. It peels back the outer layer of the White House, and gives us a look inside the powerful political machine that is George W. Bush.
Discuss.

It looks to me as if the comments on this post are from an alternate universe, one in which the post wasn't a video about the "Presidential Speechalist" (played with style by Andy Dick).
In this alternate universe, the video was about how guns are good and progressives are evil for not being supported by the NRA, etc, etc.
It also seems as if some of those comments got returned to that alternate universe, because they were mercifully removed from this one. The fabric of reality is still damaged, though, because there are still some bizarro comments in this thread, and the comments that do belong here are still missing. Maybe in that alternate universe, they don't care if the comments are even remotely on topic, so witty commentary on Bush's popularity as "idiot-in-chief" are lost in all the noise.

Well I guess this thread has been successfully hijacked.

Huh what? What is all this ranting about guns? That video was a brilliant spoof that had nothing to do with guns.

or NOLA or Pelosi or anything at all except the president's total ineptitude at public speaking.
Gotta admire Andy Dick's ability to parody this guy. After all, he's been a laugh riot all on his own for his entire life, and we've had to listen to this puerile, hectoring bully, as he has spent the past six years destroying our language, reputation, military, and the future of my grandchildren.
We deserve a well executed parody at this point.
As the Dark Lord opined about tax breaks for the wealthy, "It's our due".

Forgive me for being off topic, but there was no way to post this on the relevant topic.
It does the credibility of this blog no good to post such a shrill and over the top title as the one above.
Is this the quality of the discourse we can now expect from BlueOregon? It doesn't become you.

Rob, please take your discussion about Bill McDonald's post over to Bill McDonald's blog. His comments may not suit your style, but he IS a former Portland Tribune columnist - and a well-known comic and commentator.
If you don't like "quality of the discourse" here at BlueOregon, you're not required to read it. In any case, we're surveying the entire breadth of progressive water cooler chatter.

Hey Rob,
Lovely sentiment. Did you even watch the video on this link.?
Let me ask you: Are you referring to the "quality of discourse" George W. Bush and the Republican party fostered before we sent young Americans to bleed in a foreign desert?
...the kind of discourse where the White House spokesman suggested critics of the war plan should "watch what they say?"
...the kind where people who questioned claims about Saddam's links to 9/11 or about what was going to happen in Iraq after Saddam's iron fist was gone were called traitors, idiots and naive appeasers by the conservative movement's loudest and "brightest" voices?
...the kind of quality discourse where a citizen who writes a letter to the editor asking tough questions about the wisdom of Bush's "pre-emptive" invasion received thinly veiled threats on their home phones from wackos telling'em to "stay in the hills where you belong"?
You mean that kind of discourse, Rob?
Watch the video and honestly ask yourself if George W. Bush -- a man who joked about putting fellow born-again-Christian Karla Faye Tucker to death -- ever possesed the intellect, work ethic, humility, respect or depth of character to sit in the Oval Office. Then ask yourself how a complete and total world-class schmuck like W. can get elected.
Is it because of the "quality of discourse" Republicans have fostered?
Don't be a chimp!

The sound you just heard was Andy Dick's humor sailing over Rob Kremer's head and crashing into the armoire.
