Punditology Deadline: Tonight
Kari Chisholm
As I mentioned last week, Oregon's sharpest political insiders, lobbyists, consultants, bloggers, and elected officials are competing in my biannual no-money election prediction pool. Think you know how the 2006 election is going to turn out in Oregon? This is your chance to prove your mettle. Prove you're the one that knows who's who and what's what.
Already in: Uber-consultant(and 2002 runner-up) Gary Conkling, Oregonian cartoonist Jack Ohman, Secretary of State Bill Bradbury, right-wing ballot measure activist Tim Trickey, City Commissioner Sam Adams, about a half-dozen state legislators, and over 200 more.
The deadline is tonight at midnight. So, dig in: 2006 Oregon Punditology Challenge
Tomorrow morning, everyone who completes the challenge will get a link to the "conventional wisdom" -- which is usually right, except when it's spectacularly wrong.

Kari. Just a minor complaint about the survey. As a lobbyist with statewide interest, I pay pretty close attention and think my guesses are well considered. But as a Keizerite, I have ABSOLUTELY NO IDEA who is going to win a Metro area judicial race. You really do a disservice to your readers who are outside the Metro area when you make us wildly guess at races when we don't even know the names. You do have readers from around the state, don't you? Please consider using the Metro stuff for tie-breakers or for a Metro only winner.
(Said in a very whiny voice) "It's just not fair!"

Yup. Sounds like "Blue Oregon" should be renamed "Blue Portland." Kinda sorta ever thus .... which reminds me, I'll be interested to see not just the final tally, but the regional breakdowns on Measure 40 (judges by district amendment).

I remember a decent amount of local races from across the state that were on the punditology challenge for the primary elections. Some Portlanders, myself included, didn't have much clue so it all balances out in the end.

Sally -- just to be clear, the Punditology thing is something that predates BlueOregon by about four years, and doesn't really hae anything to do with BlueOregon.
Darrell, Andrew is correct. I've always included the most competitive races from around the state. As usual, I called a bunch of people who pay attention to this stuff, and no one could really come up with much compelling stuff outside the Metro area.
In any case, the point is to see who is really up on their Oregon politics -- not just who has the latest polling.
And, have fun. So, relax!

Boy do I feel provincial now, who the heck are these people??? I suppose guesses count, but I won't feel real smart if I win.
