Countdown To Taking The Senate
The One True bIX
AP and Reuters call the Virginia Senate race for Democrat Jim Webb over Republican George Allen. Says CNN: "A source close to Allen also told CNN that the senator 'has no intention of dragging this out.'" Says MSNBC: An Allen "adviser said that Allen was disinclined to request a recount if the final vote spread was similar to that of election night."

Ed Gillespie, Allen's campaign manager, said today that they won't drag it out beyond the automatic canvassing which is going on right now. Which would seem to indicate that Webb has won since I don't expect the canvass to change anything substantively. Virginia runs a pretty tight ship when it comes to elections.

NBC, CBS, Reuters, AP all called for Webb. Senator Macaca will concede tomorrow evening.

Very exciting news to be sure, but I've still got a question. It seems like the Dems have spent the last few years twiddling their thumbs and waiting for the Republicans to get out--will they utilize this new found power to right the wrongs in our country? Are they willing to finally take a stand and fight to make things better?
I sure hope so. I've got high hopes and boundless faith in many of our newcomers to the Oregon House, I just hope things are half as bright on a national scale.
Thoughts?

Zoe:
I see a wonderful opportunity for Dems to provide real leadership and real policy. People have forgotten what a functional government looks like -- it looks like us.
I like this people powered politics. And I can't wait to see how the state (and the nation) respond to a governing majority that serves the people, not rules them.

One only needs to look to the City of Portland as a model for the nation.
