Breaking: Blazers left off NBA schedule
In an astounding move, the NBA has left the Portland Trail Blazers off the 2006-2007 schedule.
Claiming that it would "just make an awkward situation even worse," Portland Trail Blazers head coach Nate McMillan said in a press conference last Sunday that he and his team "got the hint" after noticing his team's conspicuous absence on the 2006-07 NBA schedule, and will not make any attempt to play a basketball game this year. "At first we thought that they were giving us the first week off, but after looking at the schedule for the rest of the year, we understood what was going on," said McMillan, adding that after last year's league-worst 21-62 record, he thought this might be coming.

Ah yes. The Onion. Funny as ever.
I like a good satire like anyone else, but aren't we straying just a wee bit far from the purpose of BlueOregon, when we start highlighting non-political satire on the front page?

as one of the anti-professional sports people on this blog, this was actually welcome because I thought it
was true!!!! Damn, ya got me, Onion.

You know I was trying to look up the word "gullible" in the dictionary the other day, and it wasn't even in there?
It's true, the word "gullible" isn't even in the dictionary!
Try to look it up!

Funny; I have been trying to tell Republicans for some time that the belief that their party (my former party) is the best manager of our public institutions is outdated . . . just as would be their thinking that the Trail Blazers are a top-ranked basketball team. Sadly, the talent of the Republican team has slid. Like the Trail Blazers, the magic is gone, and the current team members just don't have the committment or vision to make things better. Maybe the Trail Blazers need something really startling to shake them out of their apparent indifference. Maybe the "GOP" needs the same.

Please don't drag my Blazers into the same shit-pit as the GOP. They're not that bad.

Steven... First, we cover the Blazers travails all the time. Second, if you don't think the Blazers are a political story, well, you're not paying attention. Third, BlueOregon is supposed to be a "wide-ranging political, social, and cultural critique" -- per our initial mission statement.

Sure they are. They have about the same percentage of criminals on the roster...
