Swear to uphold...
Kari Chisholm
In my meanderings across the blogosphere, I came across Jamie Raskin - a candidate for State Senate in Maryland. During testimony two months ago before the Maryland legislature, Jamie was asked by a Republican state senator if gay marriage would violate "God's Law".
His response:
"Senator, when you took your oath of office, you placed your hand on the Bible and swore to uphold the Constitution. You didn't place your hand on the Constitution and swear to uphold the Bible."
Damn. I like that.

I personally favor civil unions. In fact I don't think any government entity ought to grant anything but civil unions. I say marriage ought to be the sole domain of religion.
That said... I agree, Kari. Raskin's reply was pure brilliance.
