Campaign Violations from Kim Thatcher?
The Statesman-Journal reported this week that State Representative Kim Thatcher (R-Keizer) may be in trouble for breaking a state law against candidates hiring themselves for professional services.
Her re-election campaign (facing Democrat Chuck Lee) appears to have paid her company for campaign-related services.
The Oregon AFL-CIO filed an elections complaint Monday against state Rep. Kim Thatcher, R-Keizer, asking for an investigation of her re-election campaign finances. The labor federation questioned Thatcher's campaign paying $10,696 in "wages" to KT Construction, Thatcher's road-services company. That may violate a 2005 law, House Bill 3458, which barred candidates from paying themselves out of campaign funds for professional services rendered, said Tom Chamberlain, the labor federation's president.

A quote from the SJ article:
The AFL-CIO also raised questions about Thatcher's company winning bids for public-road projects, then using money derived from such taxpayer-financed projects to make contributions and provide in-kind services to Thatcher's campaign. Thatcher said that everything in her campaign finances and reporting has been "above board" and well-documented. "The unions are throwing noodles against the wall to see what sticks," Thatcher said.
A sitting legislator talks about throwing noodles against the wall? If she did nothing wrong, why not stop with "I did nothing wrong and have the documentation to prove it"?

The Newberg Graphic article is worth reading. Among other puzzling things, Thatcher says, “They’re on a political witch hunt.”
Um, what does that say about her? The photo shows a stunning resemblance to Glenda the Good Witch. For Real.
Anyway, the unions didn't bite.
Chamberlain said he was “surprised” to hear the request characterized as an attack from the left.
“This isn’t a left or right, Democrat or Republican or Independent issue,” he said. “This is a disclosure issue.”

Thatcher is the poster-child for the hypocrisy of the "anti-government" "rugged individual" "free-market" zealot.
She and her party rail against government all the while feeding off the public trough with government contracts for her "private" business.
Me thinks she doth protest too much.
