The Scary Halloween Nomination
This morning, President Bush nominated appeals court justice Samuel A. Alito to replace Sandra Day O'Connor on the Supreme Court.
Alito, appointed to the appeals court in 1990 by President George H.W. Bush, has been a regular for years on the White House's short list for the high court....
Alito's resume, including his service in the Justice Department during the Reagan administration, is very much unlike that of [withdrawn nominee Harriet] Miers's, who had no appellate experience, and very much like that of Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. ....
Unlike Roberts, he has opined from the bench on abortion rights, church-state separation and gender discrimination to the pleasure of conservatives and displeasure of liberals.
People for the America Way, who have done a great job of documenting Bush's court nominees, has a short bio and a longer, pdf version.
Discuss.

Time to dust off that filabuster option, force the Republicans to use the nuclear option that will catapult them out of power for years to come.

It was a good tactic, at least, to come out with a nomination so quickly. Look, we've all forgotten already about the administration exposing their CIA agents and lying about it!

So Senator Gordon Smith, what are you going to do? President Bush has chosen to throw gasoline on the flames of the cultural war. Are you with him or are you going to oppose this nomination?

dmrusso: the best way to catapult the Republicans out of power for years to come would be for the Supreme Court to overturn Roe v. Wade.

Time for every Oregonian who can write to remind Gordon Smith that he represents Oregon not Utah or Texas.

Liar Bush is poison now. Anyone Bush touches or nominates is destroyed. Anything Bush says is a lie. If you believe his words, you are a fool.
Yes, Gordon Smith is destroyed and Gordon Smith a liar -- because clueless Smith is Bush's boy.
No Bush liar Supreme Court Bush liar nominee is decent for the job. Any Bush liar nominee can be impeached and removed by the next Congress -- because he or she is a Bush liar. Don't even fight them now. Only put them in the crosshairs to be impeached.
The Bush liar Supremely illegitimate Court doesn't matter, it's a distraction.
Bush is killing our children in Bush liar's war. The Bush Representatives and Bush Senators have our children's blood on themselves because they are Bush lovers, not America lovers. Bush Congress is killing our children, they have blood on them, do not shake their hands. They are murdering people with their silence.
TV and newspaper reporters have blood on their Bush hands doing the Bush's work. Don't buy that liar's newspaper, it has blood on that Bush newspaper -- The New York Times, The Oregonian. They are murdering people with their censorship of news.
A vote for anyone in Bush Congress puts blood on that voter's ballot and there is bloody voter's hands.
See, you do not care Bush murders people as long as you don't know them personally or have to go to the funeral. Reporters do not care Bush murders people as long as they get a blood-soaked paycheck.
Some fascist Court nominee is much more important to posture around in the news for two months. Dead soldiers for Bush liar war are not important soldiers.
I don't give a goddamn who the nominee is. Bush phony president commits treason. Bush liar is a traitor against America.
And the newspaper has got his back.

Chris,
Your comment about Roe v. Wade being overturned movtivating the left are sad but true. Unfortuately, I think it will happen in the next 3-5 years. I'm pretty pesimistic about it these days. The death with Dignity act will likely be overturned as well.
