Breaking: Libby indicted, resigns
The news that the political universe has been waiting for finally hit:
[Vice-presidential chief of staff Lewis] Libby was indicted on one count of obstruction of justice, two counts of perjury and two counts of making false statements, court documents show. Libby -- a major player in the Bush White House -- resigned soon after the indictment was announced.
No news yet on Karl Rove.
Update: The special prosecutor made this statement at a press conference - "[Lewis Libby's] story would be a compelling story that would make the FBI go away. If only it were true. It was not true. ... He was at the beginning of the chain of phone calls; the first official to disclose the information outside the government."
Update: Tucker Carlson on MSNBC: "These aren't just crimes. They're incredibly dumb crimes. ... It's just really weird behavior."
Discuss.

Dang it, you beat me to the post. Here's some of the text from the actual indictment.

I think it's very interesting that Scooter Libby, age 55, born August 22 1950, is being indicted on 5 charges in a 22 page report delivered at a formal press conference at 2:00 after a 22 month investigation. 5 and 2 are the most sacred Illuminati numbers, with 5 symbolizing the sacred feminine and 2 symbolizing duality (yin and yang).
I find it very interesting also that Karl Rove, still under investigation and expected to be indicted, will soon be 55 (on December 25 - the birthday of the ancient pagan sun god). And all this after the grand jury was sworn in 2 years ago on October 31. Ooh! Scarry!

The context in which I see most of the scandals connected -- no, not aspen roots balled together, more like neurons synchronized in a mastermind(ing) to it, whether in an individual or a small 'cabal' conspiring -- a context going for years and around the world, and so in Libby he is charged with lying that he, in some context, had been lying to us about terrors.
If guilty, it means in truth he had been part of the lying that terrorizes us. Part of lies to hide earlier lies. And then I can understand his motives -- he practiced to deceive -- and resubstantiate the context.

2000 American soldiers are dead because of a lie that Libby helped to foster. This lie was used by Colin Powell and George Bush to justify a war against a regime that had NOT attacked us and which was NOT preparing weapons of mass destruction to use against us.
For those of us old enough to remember, the Vietnam conflict started with a lie, the Gulf of Tonkin resolution, and ended in a shambles.
President Johnson was forced out of seeking a second term because of the lie and he retired. President Bush should do us all a favor and resign before he is impeached.

Isn't it interesting that the first (and about only thing) that Bush and Cheney had to say about it is that Libby is entitled to due process and he is innocent until proven guilty--something they have denied to so many others.

Also, just so I can be on the record when [if] it happens: Libby will plead guilty. Is there any way this thing goes to trial? I can't see it.

How much public cheddar to prosecute? W's parting loogie launched toward the have nots will be Libby's pardon. Proving -yet again- that "Justice" is quite maleable in this administration. Peace Out!(of Iraq)
