Not enough good interns in Oregon?

Brian Wagner

Something I never expected to receive in my weekly "available internships" e-mail from my New York City university:

Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski Internship Program

Oregon Governor Ted Kulongoski's internship program offers
students and recent college graduates an opportunity to
witness and participate in the day-to-day operations of a
political campaign. Interns will gain valuable experience in
campaign fundraising, event organization and coordination,
and grass roots campaign organization. Interns will also
learn the numerous functions of the political office and the
multiple roles of Oregon's Governor. In the process of
working in this dynamic environment interns will develop
valuable contacts and relationships that will last long after
the campaign is over.

Interns will work out of the Portland, Oregon office, but
will have the opportunity to visit locations throughout the
state.

Housing can be made available for those who need it.

The Governor's campaign is happy to help any student receive
school credit for the internship. Interns must work out the
requirements with their school.

You'd be amazed at the sort of internships that come over the wire, if you watch them religiously enough. I have seen a lot of random solicitations for research assistants -- Chicago authors think journalism majors are good at that, or something -- and the sorts of menial filing and organizational stuff that anyone could do. Whatever an organization wants labor for, they'll post as an internship somewhere.

sorry wes, i'm going to agree with the poster. as both a PSU student and congressional intern, that is, if you'll pardon the phrase, bullshit. there are plenty of students in oregon who'd be happy to take that sort of a gig if it was properly advertised. i haven't seen any postings at PSU for internships with kulongoski's office. it's a bit unclear what they mean by "Housing can be made available for those who need it", but i'd sure take an internship with free housing.
