Dan Doyle's Legal Woes
Troubles keep mounting for Dan Doyle, the ousted House co-chair of the Ways and Means Committee. Two stories out today in the StatesmanJournal:
The Oregon Department of Justice agreed Tuesday to launch a criminal investigation of former Salem lawmaker Dan Doyle, stemming from irregularities in his 2004 campaign-finance reports.
"A decision has been made that this is not simply a civil matter, rather, that there is a potential for criminal wrongdoing," said Kevin Neely, a Justice Department spokesman. "We will be undertaking that investigation." (Link)
And then:
Embattled former lawmaker Dan Doyle faces three new complaints filed by his legal clients to the Oregon Bar Association.
- Tim Butler of Aumsville filed a bar complaint March 1 on behalf of Butler Family Development. Butler said that eight or nine farmers hired Doyle in mid-2001 to seek compensation from Salem for building a water line across their properties.
- Leroy and Dorothy Dalke, an Aumsville couple also involved in the water-line case, filed a bar complaint March 11. The Dalkes said they paid Doyle $7,000, including money for an appraisal in 2002 that has not been conducted.
- Jean and Keith Craig, a Salem couple, filed a bar complaint April 18, saying that they have been unable to obtain original copies of their will from Doyle. They had been trying to get the document since mid-February, according to their complaint. (link)
Doyle, of course, was unavailable for comment.
