Small world, big martini

Rachael Vorberg-Rugh

MartinibusHere in Oxford, I wake up every morning to BBC4.  I make my coffee, turn on my computer, check the e-mails, look at the news sites, and (of course) look over Blue Oregon to see what's going on at home.  All the while in the background, British voices tell me what's happening on this side of the pond.

This morning I was surfing away as usual when a familiar voice broke through my under-caffeinated reverie: Thomas Lauderdale.  The Pink Martini frontman was merrily chatting away on the BBC's morning interview programme.  (You can listen to it here, under the "Listen Again" heading.) It seems the Portland band's embarked on a European tour, and will be playing in London at the start of April.  So, congrats to Pink Martini, who certainly deserve their worldwide acclaim.  It was great to hear a Portland accent on my new "local" airwaves.

Rachael- up here in Scotland we too hear about Thomas and his band--the more popular of the PMs around here right now--it seems that, just as music fans across the US became hooked on Sympathiue for years before Hang on Little Tomato came out, Europeans are now getting hooked on the first effort as well. Behind the times? Maybe, but it's never too late to enjoy a good thing.

I googled my family name today... Curious... do you have any relatives in Chicago?

Hello, my name is Rugh, too! Where are you living, and do you know any other Rughs?
