Whitsitt all about?

Mari Margil

Bizarre.  Bad timing?  Good timing?

The Oregonian reports today on how Bob Whitsitt "Saves self after losing Blazers" - while the San Francisco Chronicle reports - also today - that Whitsitt was fired from the Seattle Seahawks.  What is that all about?

The folks at the big O haven't had a chance to read the SF Chronicle yet.

How else could you expect them to get the story?

They are still trying to play catch up with WW and the Statesman.

I'm sure the sports reporters were too busy working on important issues - like labelling Nick Van Exel as the team's new Rasheed/Bonzi troublemaker.

They finally got a story about someone on a day it mattered! Too bad it wasn't the big story about that person on that day. The Big O: a day late and a dollar short.

Whitsitt's an executive, not a professional team builder. It was a matter of time before the gig was up - you can't fake general management of a professional sports franchise for long without it being plainly evident you don't know what you're doing, and that's what happened to Whitsitt.

Those of us that are fans of either team are really tired of rooting for "pretty good" year after year. Gangsters, stoners, or droppers of key passes, it's all very frustrating.......

Maybe we oughtta get Wanda Sykes. She could do no worse. http://www.comedycentral.com/tv_shows/wandadoesit/

In reading John Donagans post it sounded like a description of someone else. I changed John's post to make my point.

Kulongoski is a partisan politician, not a leader or Governor. It's a matter of time before his gig is up -you can't fake general management of State for long without it being plainly evident you don't know what you're doing, and that's what happening to Kulongoski.

Another similarity is how each got their jobs in the first place. What did Allen see in Whitsitt and what did Goldschmidt see in Kulongoski.

What's that old advertising slogan of the O's? If it matters to Oregonians, it's in the Washington Post

...only now it's the San Francisco Chronicle.

The Oregonian has no local ownership. They place the ex-local owners in offices on SW Broadway for cover. The owner - Advance Communications / Newhouse Family - is hell-bent on creating an alternate-universe Manhattan on the left coast because Moscow-on-the-Hudson isn't big enough for their individual and collective egos. They need to create a Moscow-on-the-Willamette, too.

That's why they sent a pro like Mimms-Rowe here from Virginia, to get the job done. To run stories about polyp removal while the subject is actually getting terminated. More telling is the worship of grossly ineffective politicians - particularly mayor K and governors K and K2. To be canonized by the O, the formula for politicos is obvious: cling to leftism, ice our business climate and freeze City and State unemployment levels at nation-highs. This is how pathetic hacks like Erik Sten get in position to boss us around.

When you are a monopoly like the O, it doesn't matter because people cannot really go anywhere else.

Those of us who have to actually compete for a living know that Blue Oregon will not emerge from this Ice Age until we participate a little in some global economic warming. But you'd never know from the O. They have no problem with a mindset that forces us to start our businesses and raise our families under economic stagnation.

What, you don't recognize this Potemkin Village? This is not your own view of our fine city and state? The artsy sparkle, the glizty glamour, the staying-out-all-night while partying leftward?

Just browse a copy of Vanity Fair magazine, the Newhouse Empire's crown jewel, and you'll know where they are coming from. You say - the Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle? Nah. We're talking about being the Old Gray Lady here - the New York Times!

When it comes to alternate universes, Ramon, you're clearly living in your own.
